Set in Oxford, England, Morse was arguably one of the finest police drama series ever shown on British TV.
John Thaw was outstanding throughout & his delivery of this character just has to be seen.
My perception is that Morse himself was his own worst enemy at times..too clever by half & too much thinking, something I can certainly identify with. However it was his vulnerability that appealled to me, portrayed brilliantly by Thaw. Morse was not always right & he didn't always get his man. He wanted people to believe he was content with his lot but led a rather lonely existence with his dedictaion to his work his priority & in effect his life.
He was unfortunately unlucky in love too with many near misses, though not for the want of trying! However, finally he met the love of his life, sadly though, this was just months before his passing.
His stubborness & pride were forever in the way of his day to day life but his dignified, old fashioned values shone throughout each episode.
Outstanding acting by all concerned, of the like, we will sadly never see again. A very fine, no, great series indeed & pleasurable to watch over & over again.
