I decide to buy this set as a christmas present. It arrived in plenty of time and we have watched the first few episodes. For a dvd boxed set it represents very good value for money in that it was much cheaper than the same shop bought item. The series is entertaining and very easy to get in to. I wound highly reccomend it to anyone interested in crime mysteries.

  Inspector Morse - Complete Series

For a combination of slightly nostalgic 'comfort' viewing, and mental stimulation, you can't beat this boxed set. Most Morse episodes are better for a second, or more, viewing. John Thaw is always supremely watchable and only the cars and womens' hairstyles give away the series' age.

I never saw the complete series first time around, and find it difficult to catch the 2 hour repeats on daytime broadcasts. Owning the series has the advantage of not only being able to watch when I want, but also the omission of adverts, bringing the episode length down to a reasonable 1hr and 40mins.

Inspector Morse has a fine atmosphere and is set in a beautiful area of Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds. It is very English and all the better for it.It is not all gunfire covering the plot as in most crime works these days. The stories are strong enough to keep one absorbed in its detail.I find such quality unusual these days.

  The Legendary Inspector Morse
Review created: 21/02/08(updated 17/04/08)

Set in Oxford, England, Morse was arguably one of the finest police drama series ever shown on British TV.

John Thaw was outstanding throughout & his delivery of this character just has to be seen.

My perception is that Morse himself was his own worst enemy at times..too clever by half & too much thinking, something I can certainly identify with. However it was his vulnerability that appealled to me, portrayed brilliantly by Thaw. Morse was not always right & he didn't always get his man. He wanted people to believe he was content with his lot but led a rather lonely existence with his dedictaion to his work his priority & in effect his life.

He was unfortunately unlucky in love too with many near misses, though not for the want of trying! However, finally he met the love of his life, sadly though, this was just months before his passing.

His stubborness & pride were forever in the way of his day to day life but his dignified, old fashioned values shone throughout each episode.

Outstanding acting by all concerned, of the like, we will sadly never see again. A very fine, no, great series indeed & pleasurable to watch over & over again.

My wife and I are great fans of John Thaw and Kevin Whately. This series we believe displays their acting skills at their best. With the adaptation from Colin Dexter's novels mix with a wide selection of guest appearances all of a high standard add the Oxford settings and the music and you have a quality evening's viewing.

  Completely captivating - Morse
Review created: 03/07/09

This series is possibly the best detective series ever made in the UK with the very highest production values and superb acting from the regular and guest stars.
Unlike many murder series, remembering who the killer is does not necessarily spoil enjoyment of the programmes. After all, knowing that Hamlet gets killed before the end of the play doesn't stop thousands of people seeing Shakespeare's masterpiece yearly.

  "Buy me a drink, Lewis"
Review created: 23/06/09(updated 24/06/09)

Possibly the most stunning TV series ever produced, Inspector Morse stands head and shoulders above everything else. Buy the DVD set and don't rely on mid afternoon re-runs which are edited by up to 7 minutes from their original runtime and will have any of the remotely violent or unpleasant bits also edited out to be consistent with a tea time slot.
Hard to believe John Thaw could improve on his portrayal of Jack Regan in The Sweeney - but he does so - if an actor ever created two works of unparalled fineness surely it is he.
Ably assisted in all but one of the 33 stories by Kevin Whately who also equals his other masterful portrayal in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, this series features a countless stream of the best of British character actors and complex, original yarns from writer Colin Dexter.
Thaw's face off with Barry Foster in The Last Enemy is a filmic masterpiece - who is the taller ? - but this moment is surpassed by the reaction of one of his witness's little sister when Thaw asks her if she would like an ice cream.
Perry Fenwick of Eastenders fame began his hanging around in pubs screen life here - memorably addressing a defeated snoooker adversary as "tosser" in Last Bus To Woodstock.
This box set should be snapped up at your earliest opportunity.

As an admirer of the Morse series I purchased this item to watch them all again in date order. The DVD's are of a great quality and look to be as new. The only anoying thing about them is the subtitles,as they where originally purchased in belgium you have to disable the subtitles every time before viewing.Other than that this was a good purchase and will give hours of pleasure if you are a Morse fan.

I bought this collection as i thoroughly enjoyed the episodes on TV.
John Thaw And Kevin Whately make a great team. With all sorts of twists and bloody mindedness of the character Morse.
I also have the book collection but these only cover 10 episodes.
And i'm sure i have missed one or two over the years.
It will be a great pleasure to watch every episode no matter how long it takes.

  Money well spent!
Review created: 05/05/08

Anybody who is a lover of top quality drama must buy this complete set of Morse dvds.

The writing is first class, the acting is superb, the pace of each episode is measured and neither rushed nor dragged out. The interaction between the central characters is perfect- The subtle humour between Morse and Lewis is always amusing, no matter how many times I watch an episode! The way Lewis sometimes corrects Morse too! It is also lovely to be able to watch each episode without the advert breaks- each episode last approx one hour forty minutes.

I have also recently bought the complete set of Miss Marple dvds- the Joan Hickson version- again, fabulous, quality drama.

Money well spent!

  Inspector Morse- Complete (DVD 2002)
Review created: 01/05/08
by:

Inspector Morse episodes are clasics of television and even after several years and the death of John Thaw they are infinitely preferable to some of the trash being broadcast at the moment. The DVD's are of good production quality and can be taken in small chunks like Toblerone or in a large serving like a tub of chocolate ice-cream!
Many well known TV actors made their debuts in Morse but the star of the show is Oxford and for those of us who know the city it's always fun to see where Morse leaves his car! Lesser mortals would be towed away at once!
I can highly recommend this boxset as an indulgence or a gift.
