  Feeling tired detective?

Internal Affairs have some serious questions regarding the past convictions of LA cop, Will Dormer (Pacino). To take some heat off the situation he and his partner are sent to a small Alaskan town to investigate the brutal murder of a local teenager. But Dormer's situation is made worse when his partner is killed and he is drawn into a dark mind game by the reclusive prime suspect, a local writer, Walter Finch (Williams)

I didn't hold too much hope for this at first, but it turned out to be a very good thriller. Of course Pacino is first class as the old-school cop who can't get to grips of the 'white-nights', and Hilary Swank plays the enthusiastic local cop beautifully. But the film is stolen by Robin Williams. This is one of two 'creepy' parts he's played (the other being in One Hour Photo), and he plays them to perfection. The character of Finch is sinister without being obvious. His devious plans and ideas almost make perfect sense! The film as a whole never lets you get to comfy, and coasts along with something to think about from start to finish.

  A cop fighting his demons

Al Pacino dominates this film despite the presence of other top notch talent (Robin Williams, Hilary Swank). He is remarkable and memorable as an ageing LA cop Will Dormer, sent on a temporary homicide assignment to Alaska, where a schoolgirl has been killed. The killer, Walter Finch (Robin Williams), takes advantage of the fact that Alaska has 24 hours sunlight and Dormer is suffering from insomnia, which affects his ability to deal with the situation. Dormer, at first sight the hero cop, turns out to have a whole lot of baggage in the manipulative way he brings people to justice, and it all threatens to overtake him, with Finch taking advantage the whole way. Dormer, trying to squirm out of another situation he creates himself, tries to drop Finch in it, and the two men try to outwit each other. Great performances from the lead three with Robin Williams in a rare role as villain which he pulls off with great skill and a menacing quality. A touching moment at the end where Dormer, who has lost his way in life, tries to stop another cop from doing the same. Great viewing.

This is one of pachinos better efforts in recent years. you see his full acting skills wittout him going to overboard and too animated. the film is well shot and the colours of the film are perfect and enable you to feel the disalusion and detatchment of the main character. this is very much a christoper nolan film, a director who is at the top of his game. look out for his other films if you enjoyed this one.

You can't fall asleep watching this film, nor Al Pacino
Review created: 09/09/07

Not as good as the original, but Al Pacino's performance is solid. Robin Williams plays a good psycho, which you don't expect from a comedy actor. None of this would be any good without the direction of Christopher Nolan. A very good film. And very cheap on Ebay.

Fantastic movie, I loved this. Al Pacino and Robin Williams are just amazing and the script works so well with them. Usually I buy my DVD's watch them and resell, however I am keeping this one as I could watch it over and over. This does not happen often. Recommended to anyone. Great movie.
