Album Notes
Deep Purple: Ian Gillan (vocals); Ritchie Blackmore (guitar); Jon Lord (keyboards); Roger Glover (bass); Ian Paice (drums).Engineers: Martin Birch, Andy Knight, Phillip McDonald.British import edition, this includes nine bonus tracks, including remixes, unreleased instrumentals, and in-studio chatter. With IN ROCK, Deep Purple added vocalist Ian Gillan into the line-up, a decision that irrevocably changed their fortunes. IN ROCK is one of the genre's definitive albums, combining hard-edged riffs with virtuoso technique, topped by Gillan's full-throated roar. Few singers could survive the instrumental power beneath him, but this he does with room to spare, reacting to and emphasizing his colleagues' musical prowess. Chock-full of material destined to become Deep Purple anthems, later releases were evaluated against this trail-blazing, heavy rock collection.

As an ageing 50 year old rocker, this is an essentual C.D. for all of you has beens.

True Rock @ it,s best.

Don't let people tell you that the 70s rock were crap, they were the best rock you will ever ever hear.

  A GENUINE CLASSIC
Review created: 03/08/08

Regarded by many as Purple's finest hour. Though personally of the 4 main albums recorded by Purple Mark 11 (including Made In Japan) - this is actually my least favourite.. Only because I feel the songs are not consistantly amazing throughout the entire album. Where as on 'Machine Head' and 'Fireball' there is a certain level that continues unabated throughout...
However that said, this album does have 'Child In Time', ' Speed King' and 'Black Night' - so I guess it doesn't really matter if the others are not quite up there on that level.
In context of a 1970 recording, this album broke a lot of moulds - and became a serious template for rock music the world over, often mimicked, never bettered... Gillan to me is one of the true Rock voices and throughout this album he is in stunning form, then again so is everyone else - Jon Lord's keyboards are inspiring, and Blackmore used this album to set himself up as a 'Rock God'.. Paice and Glover were as good a rythmn section as you could wish for. It features a stunning 28 page booklet with so much info, you really feel thast you understand the complexities of being in Deep Purple - The sleeve packaging is great with the signatures on the case being a rather unique touch. Make sure you get the slip case when buying this, as there are plenty of them knocking about. There's 11 extra tracks and studio banter thrown in, all of whih are worth their inclusion.. All in all a masterpiece of remastering and a worthwhile purchase for any rock fan, both young or old. +++++

i have owned deep purple in rock in all formats since i was about 14 years old. several lp's , tapes and cd's later (worn out, stolen or lost) i have recently purchased the remastered version. i am 39 now and i have played this album on a regular basis since then and never got tired of listening to it. this influential album is without doubt a cornerstone in rock music's evolution and in my opinion it is one of the greatest rock albums of all time. guitarist ritchie blackmore at his best. remastered version includes black knight as an extra track. also added bonus features studio chat and remixes.
