But because "Vogue," which is also available on THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION, doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the album--a collection of novelties and show tunes that live up to the subtitle "Music From And Inspired By The Film DICK TRACY"--and because the rest of the album doesn't quite fit in with Madonna's more familiar work, fans might be tempted to pass up I'M BREATHLESS. That would mean missing out on an essential, oft-hidden side of Madonna as well as missing out on vocal performances that critics agree rank among her best. With tracks like "I'm Going Bananas" and "Hanky Panky," I'M BREATHLESS may be a Madonna oddity, but it's an oddity fans will want in their collection. Report this review Review created: 04/03/08 by: I'm a big Madonna fan and simply bought this album as i've had it in the past but its been lost/stolen/borrowed and i needed another copy! In all honestly its one of her poorer albums, some of the songs are terrible, but its worth owning this album simply for the track Hanky Panky (track 3) as its a classic and my personal favourite!! I would rate it very very poor in real life compared to the selling description accompanying it when offered for sale. It turned out to be one track of Madonna and even it was not all that exciting. Who the others are is anyone's guess. Review ID: 10000000003501590 Was this review helpful? Report this review This album was issued to coincide with the release of the Dick Tracy film in the same way that the Who's That Girl soundtrack accompanied that film. There are four songs by Madonna directly from the film, "Sooner or Later", "More", "What Can You Lose?", and "Now I'm Following You", although the latter song appears here in a version different from the one in the film (the film version of "Now I'm Following You" was performed not by Madonna and Warren Beatty, but by the song's composer, Andy Paley). There is also a pointless Shep Petitbone mix of this song which stands out like a sore thumb. The other songs are merely fillers claiming to be inspired by the film's 1930s theme, with exception of "Vogue" which doesn't sound anything like the other tracks, and appears to be stuck on the end as it was the biggest hit from the album and boosted sales. As a film soundtrack it's passable, and it shows another side to Madonna's vocal talent, otherwise it's reserved purely for fans of Madonna and anyone who enjoyed the songs in the film or music of the era.
