Twenty thousand years ago, at the dawn of the Ice Age, three completely mismatched creatures have been brought together by a twist of fate.

Sid, a fast talking and comical sloth, Manfred a moody woolly mammoth and Diego, a sinister saber-toothed tiger reluctantly team up to help return a human baby to his father.
Before their incredible journey ends, this unlikely trio will confront lava pits, escape treacherous ice tunnels and meet a prehistoric squirrel-rat named Scrat who is frantically trying to bury his beloved acorn.
Join the weirdest herd in history for the coolest adventure of all time--Ice Age!

a top 5/5 for this film.
Great animation, one-liners, and originality make this a great kids movie, which the adults will love too!

My boyfriend and I are in our early 30's with no kids yet but still decided to watch this. Plenty of adult humour and we laughed aloud several times. Helps if you pay attention though as there are loads of little comments or background things all over this film that you could miss.

I brought this for when my neice comes round to watch and for me as i'm a big kid at heart and love the adult humour it contains.
This was a real bargain and came in excellent condition, i had to email the user for the condition of it as it wasn't listed but it was hassel free to find out this information.
The DVD itself is fantastic, its a really goos watch which i would thouroughly recommend.

With computer animation being such a big hit with audiences of all ages (witness the piles of money raked in by the likes of Toy Story and Shrek), it was only a matter of time before 20th Century Fox got their piece of the pie. Ice Age, a family movie starring furry animals and set in prehistoric times, is their maiden voyage into this lucrative genre--and it's not that impressive, especially in light of the competition.

Manny (voice provided by Ray Romano) is a giant woolly mammoth whose migration is unexpectedly complicated with the discovery of a lone human baby. Although he distrusts people, the great shaggy traveler decides to take the helpless infant and deliver it to its family. Joining him in his journey across the wilderness are a chatty sloth named Sid (voice of John Leguizamo) and a saber-toothed tiger named Diego (voice of Denis Leary), whose services as a helpful guide belie a more insidious agenda. Along the way, this mismatched trio and their delicate cargo face danger from predators, harsh weather, and fanatic Dodo birds.

The story is decidedly targeted at children. The run-of-the-mill lesson about the importance of family is like Disney's Lilo and Stitch minus the heart. Virtually every plot element is generic, from Manny and Sid's odd couple relationship to a villain's change of heart when he is shown kindness.

Ice Age does little to advance the science of computer animation. It dabbles with creating fire and shows off some small, lifelike dust clouds, but there's nothing that is particularly new to the artform. Aesthetically, many of the animals are as unappealing as the title insects in 1998's Antz, while the people look downright inhuman.

Manny the mammoth is amusing, if only because he's Ray Romano's big, dumb voice coming out of a big, dumb beast (although slipping in some of the comedian's stand-up material is a forced and cheesy move). But Sid, in typical sidekick-gone-wrong fashion, borders on irritating. Haven't the studios learned anything from Jar Jar Binks? You'd think by now they would have figured out this simple calculation: annoying comic relief character - comic relief = annoying character.

By far, the funniest critter in Ice Age is the one who says the least: a saber-toothed squirrel called Scrat whose singled-minded obsession over an acorn leads to a whole lot of trouble. This twitchy-eyed rodent is like a crack addict who can't catch a break, a compulsive freak who will do whatever it takes to get the almighty nut. It's no wonder that he's a favorite among viewers, and that the DVD includes bonus Scrat footage that wasn't available during the film's theatrical run.

But even Scrat and his nut-fiending antics can't catapult this movie into greatness. Overall, Ice Age is a thoroughly mediocre entry in the world of computer generated feature films--entertaining and watchable, but doing almost nothing to push the envelope technologically or creatively.

This is a truly superb kids movie - but not to be missed by the adults either.

I don't recall it causing massive noise in the cinema - which is a shame. For me it's right up there with Shrek. My 7 and 2 year olds both love it but there's enough depth and great one liners in there to keep the adults absorbed as well.

I thoroughly recomment it. Plus it must have made an impact on DVD because Ice Age 2: The Meltdown followed and, although not as amusing, was a great watch too.

I decided to buy this after watching it with my grandchildren at their home. I obviously went for a DVD rather than a video as these are easier to store and the picture is sharper. I think the humour in this film is excellent and each time you watch it you see and hear bits you've missed before. The animation is clever and very colourful. I cannot think of anything that I dislike about it.

Good entertainment for all the family
Review created: 08/12/08

Ice Age is an enjoyable romp through the ice age. The story revolves around a bunch of misfit animals trying to return a human baby to its family. One of them, a Sabre toothed tiger, though, is leading them towards his pack for a big meal!
Lots of laughs and spills along the way.

At first I wasn't sure about the computer generated characters, but was soon drawn into the story along with my 3 yr old grandson and his mum. Sharp pictures and loveable characters made it a pleasure to watch. Bit of an emotional roller coaster when the friendly sabre tooth tiger gets hurt, then appears again limping from behind a rock, but it all ended happily. It was a simple but good story line, about friendship, and supporting each other through bad times. Also that it doesn't pay to be nasty ( the tiger changed from being the enemy to being a life saving friend). An excellent family film (teenagers apart, because they found it boring).

I am now looking forward to watching Ice Age 2 - I only hope that it is just as good.

I bought this dvd for my kids and they both loved it. They liked the animals as they tried to return a lost child to its family before they attacked. The best part was watching the squirrel trying to keep hold of his acorn and causing lots of accidents in the process.

ICE AGE - COOL FOR ALL AGES!
Review created: 31/05/08

I was very reluctant to watch this movie, i thought it was just ANOTHER movie for kids. A good friend of mine saw it, loved it and wouldn't shut up about it so i rented it and was hooked. So much so, that i've just bought it, and it's sequel (Ice Age 2 - The Meltdown). Whats so good about it? I'll tell you.
This film is very cleverly put together, it's great, wholesome entertainment for kids but also has visuals and jokes in it for us bigger kids. It's a movie that can be enjoyed by all generations. It's very light-hearted.
The story-line is great, it's different, it doesn't take long to get going, and will keep you entertained right through to the end. The characters are lovable, the script well written, and it's the kind of film you can watch over and over again. I also think it's very funny but that's just my opinion.

The rough story-line is, without giving anything away; Everyone's migrating south for the winter except Sid the Sloth and Manny the Mammoth (for diff reasons), they find a human baby and, reluctantly on Manny's part, form a herd and set about trying to return the baby to 'it's herd'. With this story-line the film shouldn't work, but it does, and it's fab.
You will enjoy it if you like Shrek, Madagascar, Over the Hedge, and of course the Disney Classics.
