Album Notes With 2005's HUNTER, the Philadelphia-based metal-core band A Life Once Lost continues to offer up highly aggressive songs that feature pummeling rhythms, buzzing guitar riffs, and throat-scraping vocals. This is extreme music in the truest sense, as revealed on the frenetic "Vulture" and the lurching "Grotesque," and will likely have even the heartiest of metal fans fleeing in terror. Reviews I've not heard any other ALOL stuff before, just a gig that I went to last week where they played with a friend's band (Ted Maul). The album is full of angular riffs in odd time signatures, highly reminiscent of Meshuggah (Though perhaps a little less extreme) and lyrical content that often reminds me of Arch Enemy (in fact the vocalist does sound a bit like Gossau, despite a difference of about 6 stone and 1 gender...). I recommend it to anyone interested in unusual rhythms who hasn't already acquainted themselves with the work of Tomas Haake and Gavin Harrison. Review ID: 10000000006502391 Was this review helpful?
