Album Notes This is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Personnel: David Bowie (vocals, guitar, saxophone, piano); Mick Ronson (guitar); Rick Wakeman (piano); Trevor Bolder (trumpet, bass); Mick Woodmansey (drums).Digitally remastered by Peter Mew & Nigel Reeve (1999, Abbey Road Studios).Subdued and acoustic, HUNKY DORY was the calm before the storm for David Bowie, who would explode a year later with ZIGGY STARDUST. This was Bowie in transition--hinting at his love for the theatric ("Life On Mars?"), and showing off his ability to suss out a generation's evolving self-obsession ("Changes").HUNKY DORY was also a tour of the posters framed on young Bowie's impressionable walls. His obvious romance with pre-punk New York City is evident in "Andy Warhol," and his fascination with the public-private schism shows up in "Song For Bob Dylan." In hindsight, "Dylan" seems an introduction to Bowie's idea that a rock performer needs an alter ego. He was preparing for his transformation into Ziggy Stardust. If you never hear another album again in your life time, make it this one. Everyone should own a copy of Hunky Dory. This is where Bowie truly stepped up to the mark and changed song writing forever. A true and undoubted genius at work. Unparalled. Review ID: 10000000006611482 Was this review helpful? Oh You Pretty Things is also a FAB Bowie classic with the piano intro just urging you to listen to more. Great CD with a wide varied range of Bowie songs. Review ID: 10000000006069650 Was this review helpful? Report this review I bought it because it was a record I listened to when I was a teenager and life on mars was recently on the TV. The quality of the CD is excellent and it is in a strong case with the original album cover. It was easy to find on eBay and I had a couple of people bidding on it. It was worth the money for the sentimentality of it. Review ID: 10000000003706059 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
