More a themed sketch show than a film in any real sense. Certainly as far as narrative, plot or character development go. So while some bits work and work fabulously some scenes, especially the earlier ones emphatically don't. There's a lot of stuff in here that's absolutely spot and that anyone who's been clubbing in the nineties can relate to but there's a hell of a lot of tripe as well.
This film certainly parrots a lot of drugs related clichés but then taking drugs, especially ecstasy is such a generic experience that in some ways clichés are perfectly excusable. And some of it like the spliff politics are amusingly done, with self appointed spokesmen for cannabis aficionados everywhere Howard Marks no less, although true stoners are divided as to the merits of this scene.
For those who've been there Human Traffic manages to strike the occasional chord and for the rest it's an occasionally amusing series of gags but it offers no real insight.
On a plus though it does have techno god Carl Cox in his acting debut! Its hard to shake the feeling that this is the last days of the last great spontaneous youth movement brushed up and rebranded for commercial profit. But it does have Carl Cox in it.

  NICE ONE BRUVVER!!

As I await the arrival of this little gem of a movie, I can only but smile that wry, slightly circled corner smirk, y'know.. the 'been there, done that, bought the dvd' kinda smile.
This is the second copy of the movie I've purchased, having lent the first to a 'like minded' friend of mine, knowing in all honesty of its fatal return.

It's true to say, this is not a family film (even Granny Woodstock would struggle) or even a killer of a movie, but it's good... REALLY good! A younger John Simms and Danny Dyer** path the way for a drug induced, life changing, friends conquer all night out.
Great humour, very entertaining and, depending on your stance in life, fairly educational <wry smirk curls again!>

If your still reading this review and can stratch together a couple of quid from the back of the sofa/fridge/parents bank account (!) then get this film.. Failing that, find yourself a mate with a copy!! :0)

** How the mighty have grown Ooo Er!!

Great film which i had once and lost, hence me buying it again.
Amazing film, The real story of youth in the nineties in this:chemicals, clubs, bars, pubs, pushing the viynl, blagging the guest list, mobile phones, trainers, combats, care-less, monged , mashed, sorted, safe. And here it is in all of its pupil dilated teeth-grinding, club-hopping glory.
THE WEEKEND HAS LANDED
Music Mixed by Pete Tong

I liked the trance anthems and drug references. I didn't like how it felt like a film made by students that you would expect a teacher to play to you when you were 16. I bought it because I enjoyed Kevin and Perry Go Large and It's all gone Pete Tong.

HIGHER LEVEL THINKING AT IT'S ABSOLUTE BEST!
Review created: 05/02/08

First watched this film back in the day when I dabbled a bit myself (Whoops! Don't tell my teenage son!) Wondered how they made it all seem so realistic - hadn't realised they actually dropped pills, etc before filming to make it that way. Absolutely hilarious record of a period in our history that I know I will certainly never forget - not that I knew much about what was actually hapening at the time. Watch out for the bit at the party where they get really philosophical. I really believe that dropping a pill just before a cabinet meeting/EU conference/Summit meeting, might just have the potential to put this country back on track. All that thinking on a higher plain and caring about others might just work wonders. QUICK - SOMEBODY GO AND TELL GORDON BROWN!!

  What a quality film!!!!
Review created: 06/07/07

I think that this film is fantastic. It shows the true life of a clubber and how normal people who work boring jobs can show their true colours when out partying. Even when you are a respectful person and have a respectful job you can still have fun and have a geat time out with your mates. It also shows that true friends will stick together no matter what and they will do anything to make their friends happy. Also it shows when you first thought that there was no way you could ever fall in love, it comes along when and where you least expect it.

This is a film for anyone who was clubbing from the late nineties to present day. The music will remind you of a thousand wicked nights out! The characters are easy to suss, no hidden agenda in the film, just awesomely put together.

The Ecstasy-fuelled youth culture of England is examined in this buoyant, good-natured film from 25-year-old newcomer, Justin Kerrigan. A group of young Welsh revellers, including Jip (John Simm), Lulu (Lorrain Piliongon), and Koop (Shaun Parkes) endure their mundane jobs all week, and then cut loose on a typically wild Friday night of dancing, drinking, drugging, shagging, and then recovering in order to deal with their parents come Sunday. The film's guileless pro-drug stance may prove off-putting to more jaded and conservative audiences, but as a "peak" at England's thriving 1990s counterculture, it's a fun, fascinating document, and a cheery companion to TRAINSPOTTING (which was obviously a huge inspiration). Kerrigan fills the film with lots of surreal and fantastical digressions, direct addresses to the camera, and quote-worthy bits of slang. Energetic electronica pulses throughout for a dynamite score, which combines with the high-spirited performances of the cast and makes for good time, whatever your "buzz" may be. Its honesty about the good, great, and not-so-great aspects of the lifestyle should ring true to those familiar with the scene, and provide others with a thrilling, propaganda-free glimpse into club-kid nightlife. i bought this dvd because we used to watch it as teenages. i personally wouldnt reccomend this for under 18 because it makes drugs look cool and exciting with out the dire consequences. A good laugh if you dont take it too seriously. not reccomended if your offended by sex, drugs, drinking and excessive swearing.
