  House it going!!

Season 1 of House is an excellent start to a show that has captivated the attention and interest of viewers across the globe, and for good reason.

The reason why this show is so good is because it is not like other medical procedures on television at the moment, it offers a genuine and candid insight into the world of medicine. It defies media perceptions of what a starring character should be like. House the focal point of the show is a character riddled with flaws and at his own admission is a 'jerk' yet the audience still wants to like him. His bevahiour at times is almost unbelievable yet the viewers refuse to give up on him as is brilliance is undeniable. The manner in which he interacts with patients and even his colleagues and dare I say friends in part of the reason why House is such a mystery.

Although it is criticised as being formulaic, I believe it is from that! The show is not about the events but ironically about the characters and the role they play in each case. The scenarios admittedly may follow a certain pattern but the journey they take on each show is part, if not all, of the allure of House. One important point to be made is that the medicinal terminology used int he show is beyond my comprehension and probably also 90% of the population.. the show is not about understanding the intricate details so do not be intimidated by it.

I guarantee that if you buy this, it won't be long until you are scouring Ebay for season 2... then 3 and after that 4.. like i did!

This series is about a maverick, crazy, sarcastic, brilliant, egocentric diagnostic doctor and his team.

Hugh Laurie performs the role of Doctor House, that usually treats patients, where other doctors failed to cure. He has a team of young but brilliant doctors, that help him to solve every medical case.

Personally, I think it is a kind of CSI, but for medical diagnostics. When I started to watch this series, I was simply hooked. The quality of the series is above average, and I simple love it.

It has also a kind of "I am above stupid rules!" kind of guy. He usually walks above any kind of ethic or health rule, putting the patient health ahead of everything, even above patient's opinion! Of course that this is fiction, but is a kind of fantasy that people like, the Hero Doctor kind.

The balance between comedy and drama is simply perfect! Very, very good!

You won't regret it, if you watch this show. :)

I bought this series because I'd missed it on TV and everyone I know, recommended it. I figured it was probably worth watching, might while away a few hours, but I had no idea just how good it really is.

Every episode has something new, it never gets stale. It's funny, light-hearted and at the same time very touching. The medical images are a nice touch that help involve you in the more complicated medical jargon. Of course, it's House himself that makes the show, from the pithy one-liners to his true sense of right and wrong.

Absolutely inspired.

  House - Season One

I discovered "House" after the second season had aired in the UK - I watched a couple of season one repeats and was completed hooked. I didn't originally watch it because it stars Hugh Laurie, and although I enjoyed watching him in "Black Adder" and "Jeeves and Wooster" some years ago, a hospital-based comedy didn't appeal to me. However, Hugh Laurie's Dr. Gregory House is so far removed from Bertie Wooster that it's almost impossible to believe that he's the same actor. For one thing, he uses an American accent that is so realistic that it even fooled the producer who viewed his audition tape! Gregory House is a brilliant diagnostician who heads a team of three young specialist doctors in a large, US teaching hospital. House's team gets the patients with strange illnesses that other doctors have given up on. House needs to walk with a cane because of a leg injury and He is in constant pain. The medication he takes to relieve the pain may contribute to his manner - rude, sarcastic and uncaring - but he says that he was like that before! He prefers not to interact with his patients and has a lousy bedside manner if he is forced to meet them. Hugh Laurie's portrayal of House is superb. You'd hate to have House as your doctor in real life, but as a television character he makes for compulsive viewing. House has been likened to Sherlock Holmes, because they both use the same methods of diagnosis, relying heavily on acute observation as well as highly-honed technical skills. There isn't a single bad episode amongst the 22 in season one and this DVD set is one of the best purchase I've made this year.

House is excellent. I like the interplay between characters as well as the different stories. It's amazing how they can come up with so many different medical problems. Dr. House is really interesting; he has such a depth of character. I really enjoyed watching all of the episodes in Season 1 and look forward to watching Season 2 when I can afford it!

Who's in the House? House is in the House!

I love House. This series is interesting being the first series as it has the piolet episode, in which House is a lot less abrasive and 'normal', than the witty piss taker he becomes. This progression is visible in the first few episodes and then it's business as usual after that.
I never fancies Huge Laurie, but give him an American accent and clever sarcasm and I'm won over.
Throughout the various series (1, 2, 3) there are similarities in illnesses, but what holds them together is the longer core story lines that run through a whole series, usually reaching some sort of resolution by the series finale.

Clever, witty, sarcastic and sexy!
Enjoy...

With House I believe that the character's back stories and relationship with each other make the drama a whole lot more entertaining and alot more addictive. There are so many binary opposites with each character and yet they are all so alike and dependant until the end. Hugh Laurie obviously is the key star in this program. A negative but not serious point is that some cases throughout seasons 1-4 do repeat, obviously not the story/script, but the cases that they are given in the episodes.
Thanks for reading x

  House, not home
Review created: 06/07/08

This has to be one of the most interesting drama series produced in the last 20 years. It has everything, from great plots via cutting-edge medicine and mystery, to believable characters. Hugh Laurie plays the title role to perfection as the irascible genius Dr. Greg House, topping the bill as a strangely likeable, but extremely acerbic Consultant Diagnostician, hooked on painkillers as a result of a badly-healed injury. House is one of those guys who has a very firm faith in human nature: “Everybody lies – the interesting part is ‘Why’”. His team of assistants act as the perfect foil for his maverick approach - and yes, it does take all three of them. They are used almost as much as the ever-present whiteboard to list symptoms and refine diagnoses.
As far as I can tell, the writers stick strictly to medical fact; that is, no conditions or treatments appear unreal. I’m sure that some dramatic license is employed, particularly in the characterization of some peripheral characters. Cuddy (the hospital administrator) in particular takes a large part of this series to develop from a cardboard cut-out to a “real” person. Trust me on this; she’s worth getting to know, as the strength of her character is developed from episode to episode.
The last time I saw anything this complex and thoughtful as a full-length series on British TV was The XYY Man, scrapped because audiences complained they “couldn’t understand it”.
Best of all, House doesn’t run out of steam partway through. A must-watch series, which I expect to enjoy over many viewings and even more years!

Finally, a network show I like.
Review created: 06/06/08(updated 06/06/08)

So I like medicine and mysteries and watched CSI the first couple of times but got bored quickly with the repetitive format and self-important characters. Nowadays there's usually not that much in the way of mystery shows on (US) TV anymore--cop shows, sure, but mysteries? And while ER is certainly a quality show, I never really cared that much for it either--too much like a daytime soap but with blood. "House," however, seems a nice combo of medicine, mystery, and character. Hugh Laurie's Dr. House is someone you feel guilty loving because he's so arrogant and callous, but he keeps you entertained because you can't wait to hear what he'll say next. House loves to tell the truth as he sees it, cutting through the nice happy lies that your average urban US adult tells and believes, never mind the hurt feelings he might leave lying bleeding by the roadside. But of course, his character *may* hide a heart of gold, so in the end he's trying to do the right thing. Sure, it's a formula, and House is even a stock character maybe, but it works.

If the creators/writers are smart, they'll allow a little character development, especially amongst the excellent supporting cast, but not ruin it by changing House or allowing him a romance with either of his female costars. Keep that sexual tension going!

For fun, catch Hugh Laurie--who is British by the way--sometime on one of the seasons of Black Adder (usually rebroadcast on PBS, but also available at better video rental shops). He plays a complete idiot and is as convincing in that role as he is as the brilliant and misanthropic Dr. House. . .

This is probably the best medical drama that has ever been produced. Casting Hugh Lawrie in the lead role is pure genius. The supporting characters are equally well cast and the writers deserve credit for being able to come up with a series that somehow appeals to the American audience whilst having a wit and banter that is more akin to the European mindset.

House eclipses ER, Casulaty and every other medical drama made to date.

Thoroughly recommended. Get the 3 seasons on DVD and lock yourself away for a few days. But be warned. You may need a doctor when you've finished watching. To treat your laughing fits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  House MD Season 1

I fell into watching House MD by accident.
My son asked for this for Christmas, so Santa duly obliged.

I watched the first 2 episodes, and that was that, I was hooked.

Two days latter we had watched the lot (and gone out and bought seasons 2 and 3).

Hugh Laurie is fantastic in the lead role of House
A Doctor in change of his own unit who hates patients and people in general, but is just fascinated by solving the puzzle of what is wrong with them
It is more like a detective series than a hospital drama where the disease is the villain.

He is a character who on the outside is very clever and confident but underneath he is a mess and almost an accident waiting to happen. Who is addicted to painkillers to get him though the day

The supporting casts are also excellent, and the series just gets better as it progresses, with sub plots that carry on though various episodes.

This is the best television drama I have seen foe ages, and I recommend that you get addicted to House MD

I hate soap operas. I like series such as Hill Street Blues and Sopranos. House is real, honest, frank, shocking, thought provoking and very funny. I knew Hugh Lawrie as a comedian, but his transfer to this role is worthy of Shakespeare. I have seen series 2 and 3, but 1 will not be out of place or dissapoint. Shame the writers strike in America is holding up series 4 - do they not appreciate that people have lives to live and need their house fix.

Brilliant if off sick and want something just to lay on couch and watch.

Once you get over the fact that Hugh Laurie is putting on an accent, you will find that this is one of the best TV dramas that is on the air today. Dr House is an amazing diagnostician, often solving medical mysteries that nobody else is able to. What makes this show great is the amazing sarcasm and wit that is constantly coming from him.

Give this show a try and you won't be disappointed!
