Album Notes Though Kate Bush is not the most prolific of album artists, her works make up in impact what they lack in frequency. HOUNDS OF LOVE deals with big issues--childhood fantasy and trauma, conflict, sexuality--but rarely lapses into pretension. The intense arrangements are perfectly matched to the subjects: "Running Up That Hill" is climactically erotic, "Cloudbusting" broodingly triumphant, while "The Big Sky" contains multitudes. During the 1980s, some of Bush's most successful collaborations were with Peter Gabriel ("Games Without Frontiers," "Don't Give Up"), whose habit of appropriating world music certainly appears to have rubbed off on SENSUAL WORLD. Highlights include the title track, which was adapted from James Joyce's ULYSSES, as well as "Love and Anger" and "Walk Straight Down the Middle." An added treat is "This Woman's Work," a song featured in John Hughes' movie SHE'S HAVING A BABY. | |||||||||||||
