Hostel (DVD)

I bought this because i'd read other ebay reviews saying how good/scary it was etc., and i thought, well - i haven't seen a good scary film for ages.... and i still haven't. If you want to be scared - don't bother. If you want plenty of gore/slashing flesh etc - this might be for you. Oh yes, and if you like seeing young nubile foreign ladeez flashing their bosoms - you'll be pleased on that account also. But if you wanna be frightened, you'd be better off spending your hard earned elsewhere....

excellent suspense / horror . edge of your seat stuff !loved the film so bought this as a gift for a friend who's into horror .

I bought this film as i'm a fan of anything horror/gory/supernatural etc. Have got Part 2 which i'll review after i've seen it!

I totally agree with the guy who says about the first half hour being more soft porn than gore-fest. I have no problem with that personally as a female but i did wonder why it was really necessary. I think the idea is to help you understand why the characters are keen to travel all the way to Bratislava from Amsterdam just to get some "p***y" (Roths words, not mine!).

Luckily the (real) action starts just as you are beginning to wonder when the (real) action is going to start!

I won't synopsise too much and give away the story but suffice to say once it starts you wont be disappointed.

The methods of torture are yukky - as you'd expect from the minds of Eli Roth & The Tarantino - and there is plenty of blood and disembodied body parts to keep gore lovers satisfied. I certainly cringed at a few points and even watched through my fingers at some of the scenes!

Having said that there is also a solid storyline. Quite simple but VERY effective. What i found most disturbing about this story is the fact that, unlike a lot of slash-em-ups, this COULD HAPPEN. And it wouldn't surprise me if it did - how many backpackers actually DO disappear on their travels, without a trace???

The film touches nerves not only in the "Ouch, thats GOTTA hurt" sense but also in the whole "some people are REALLY messed up" sense. There really are people out there who would pay good money to torture and kill you just to see how it feels - if they only knew where to go and that they'd get away with it...

The ending not entirely surprising, no cliffhangers or anything like that but it does leave you with a sense of justice done... and also how much going through a terrifying ordeal can change a persons character.

Definately worth seeing.

I watched this dvd because i must admit i am a bit of a fan of horror/thriller/gor films which this was diffinately billed as, after watching the first half hour i was begining to wonder were it was going to go as it seemed more like a soft porn film than that of an horror. As i am a man i obviously have no complaints about that however i thought it did lack that gor factor for which i wanted to watch it for in the first place. Having said that as the plot slowly unravels and the gor begins it did have all the classic requirements off blood and gor fans with a twist, that leaves you to ponder on if such things have happened in the past and the madness of some people who would pay so much money just to live out there sick dreams of killing someone however there sick mind desires. I also think that it finshes well, leaving you with the feeling that at least at little justice was done when one of the victims or should i say a nearly victim gets a bit of there own revenge, without giving away the full plot i will leave my review at that and say on a final note if you are a male horror fan then this just may be a great film for you, if you are female and not in to seeing naked women just get past the first half hour or so and the plot unravels in to a good film which is the rating i have given. I hope you find the rating of use.

if you like horror movies then this is a cracker! snuggle up (with someone) on the couch and get stuck in to some popcorn! you'll love it i promise xx
