Album Notes Composer: Tyler Bates.WATCHMEN is billed as the blockbuster event film of 2009. Directed by Zack Snyder (300, DAWN OF THE DEAD), and based on the most coveted comic book graphic novel in history, the film begins as a pulp noir superhero murder mystery and escalates into a science-fiction-inspired near-apocalypse--all set in an alternate-reality 1985, where Richard Nixon is President. Scoring the film is Snyder's go-to guy, Tyler Bates, who composed the music for both of the director's previous efforts, as well as THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN, and THE DEVIL'S REJECTS. Bates is well known for his melding of multiple musical genres to create time-specific tension and ambiance. With WATCHMEN, he employs New Wave-sounding synthesizers, hard rock guitars, and industrial resonance to create the alternate-reality, mid-`80s atmosphere. The result is a film score that is both emotionally riveting and highly creative.
