The Hollies: Allan Clarke (vocals, guitar); Tony Hicks, Graham Nash (guitar); Bernie Calvert (keyboards, bass); Bobby Elliott (drums).Includes original release liner notes by Gloria Stavers and new liner notes by Jud Cost & Allan Clarke.All tracks have been digitally remastered from the original two-track master tapes.Psychedelia (albeit of the whimsical British Music Hall persuasion) rears its incense-flavored head here as the Hollies, a band from which almost no one expected Big Statements, tries to come to grips with the Summer of Love. The results are only intermittently successful. But, as the title suggests, there are at least two great songs. There's also "Step Inside," a wonderful bit of power pop that more or less splits the difference between the band's older style and the album's post-"Sgt. Pepper" touches, as well as some amusing period pieces like "Maker"-heavy on the sitar and finger cymbals. Sundazed's reissue adds five bonus tracks and subtracts the thick fog of tape echo mistakenly appended to the original American LP version.
