  Chick-flick heaven

Feel good chick-flick, based around a house swap between two women who have both reached a crisis in their love lives. Predictable plot, you know what to expect from this genre, but still it carries you all the way to the end and could make even the coldest heart a little warmer.

  cameron Diaz is terrific
Review created: 20/02/09

I bought this dvd because I like Kate Winslet. I have got to say however that Cameron Diaz is georgeous plus her acting and timing were brilliant.Indeed her on screen romance with Jude Law really had the WOW factor.
I suppose this would be known as a chickflick but this old fella found it thoroughly enjoyable and I was sorry when it ended.
My only disapointment was the romance between Kate Winslet and Jack Black which seemed to lack any chemistry.

Fantastic movie, great all round cast, very funny and also weepy with a wonderful ending. Made me feel very happy and excited in parts and also sad in others, great chic flick, as one would say! The story is about 2 women who are desparate to get away from their ex lovers and surrounding and decide to embark on a house swap from the UK to USA and vice versa, to forget and escape, for at least 2 weeks anyway, tells the story of the new friends and lovers they encounter. A must see film, you will not be disappointed, in fact its one you can watch over and over again, as I have. ENJOY!! you will not be disappointed.

  Utter Rubbish
Review created: 05/01/09(updated 05/01/09)

Why in films do all brits live in little villages, in a massive country house or small cottages, of course it's snowing too and we all drive minis.

This film was highly irritating from the start. Jude Law and Cameron Diaz are terrible actors (Diazs fake running at the end annoyed me so much). The other couple were as always on top form but it was the story that let them down.

This film ends how you know it will, with a happy ending. If you like soppy much you'll probably like this but it's not for me!

  Lovely Christmas Film
Review created: 25/11/08

I saw this film in the cinema, I hadnt planned to but the other movie had sold out. The first thing i said as we walked out is "I have to own that film". I just loved it! It's very funny, but also really touching and sweet and it's a wonderful christmas movie. :-)

Basically an English rose, who lives in a chocolate box English cottage swops houses with a cold rich American girl for the xmas holidays. One jets of to sunshine and gets some perspective on her life and finally has some fun, and the other jets into the snow of England and is made miserable, then she meets a man.

The plot, sets and characters seem very one dimentional at first and then the film slowly introduces layers to all, til they are real and complex,it's very clever, and you get very fond of all of it!

  The Holiday HD DVD

I bought the film because I have seen it previously. A sentimental rom com, that appeals on different levels to both men and women, but more so the single father's of us all. Overall a feel good film, lightly sprinkled with humorous moments and a romantic undertone. Would recommend that everybody watches this film once in their lifetime!

I decided to buy this DVD as I had seen it on TV and really wanted to see it again. It is a feel good comedy starring Jack Black,Jude Law,Cameron Dias and Kate Winslet and is about a home swap on both sides of the Atlantic.I would recommend it for family viewing or for anyone that likes a well written and well produced film.

Absolutely Perfect Film for a Girl's Night In
Review created: 02/03/08

I usually avoid romantic comedies, but with Jude Law and Kate Winslet starring I decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. Christmas, romance and snow(cheesy I know)...made me glow inside and smile all the next day! Watched while having a quiet night in on my own, but would be equally good shared with girl friends. The main reason I have chosen not to rate it 'excellent' is because I can see it would not be everyone's cup of tea, my other half included (I decided not to force it upon him for Valentines!).

Obviously no complicated plot here, just relax and enjoy the beautiful people and the chocolate box English cottages etc. Films like this remind me I have a heart when I make time to sit down and relax!

In short, if you're a fan of Richard Curtis' films and Bridget Jones then you're almost guaranteed to enjoy this.

  The Holiday
Review created: 23/02/08

As a pleasant dose of holiday cheer, The Holiday is a lovable love story with all the Christmas trimmings. In the capable hands of writer-director Nancy Meyers (making her first romantic comedy since Something's Gotta Give), it all begins when two successful yet unhappy women connect through a home-swapping website, and decide to trade houses for the Christmas holiday in a mutual effort to forget their man troubles. Iris (Kate Winslet) is a London-based journalist who lives in a picture-postcard cottage in Surrey, and Amanda (Cameron Diaz) owns a movie-trailer production company (leading her to cutely imagine most of her life as a "coming attraction") and lives in a posh mansion in Beverly Hills. Iris is heartbroken from unrequited love with a cad of a colleague (Rufus Sewell), and Amanda has just broken up with her cheating boyfriend (Edward Burns), so their home-swapping offers mutual downtime to reassess their love lives. This being a Nancy Meyers movie (where everything is fabulously decorated and romantic wish-fulfillment is virtually guaranteed), Amanda hooks up with Iris's charming brother Graham (Jude Law), and Iris is unexpectedly smitten with Miles (Jack Black), a super-nice film composer on the downside of a failing relationship

Charming film set on both sides of the atlantic, Christmasy themed but can be watched any time of the year. Real romantic comedy with beautiful people. It leaves you with that warm and fuzzy feeling. Definitely would recommend - especially with valentines approaching.
