The Hole (DVD 2004)

This is a essential British Horror film- the story is well thought out, and the film is genuinley gripping, without using excessive gore and swearing - like so many horror films of this nature.
It has a fabulous cast- Thora Birch (American Beauty, The Smokers) Desmond Harrington (Wrong Turn), and of course, the now A-list famous, Keira Knightley (Love Actually, Domino, The Jacket, Pirates of the carribbean) in her first feature film role as a main character.
The DVD has many good bonus features, - trailers, deleted scenes (including, the "One Year On" scene), and the casts filmography.

I would rate this film as 9 out of 10, possibly 10 out of 10.

If you are unsure about buying it, just go for it- it wont dissapoint!!!

Rated '18' on UK DVD for Strong Language, Nudity, Violence and Moderate Horror

Seriously, this film is top notch. It starts a little weird, but its okay, because the rest of the film totally makes up for it. Admittedly, the first time I watched it, I fell asleep, but it is just pure brilliance that i shan't be making that mistake again. I don't want to give the plot away, but I completely believed the first half of the film because Thora Birch is such a wonderful actress. Throughtout the entire film she delivers a believable performance and I even found myself empathising with her character because of it (despite obvious reasons why I shouldn't, which you'll realise when you buy this film).

At last, a British movie! So it has to be strange & weird, right? Of course Well it’s certainly unpredictable up to a point and supposedly based on a cult novel.

Teenagers at an expensive English private School (one is the son of a Rock star), decide to party secretly in an old underground bomb shelter. The rest turns out to be a nightmare. I’d really hate to give too much away here. The film starts off quite well eventually gripping your curiosity & making you wonder how & indeed which way things are going to turn out. Adolescent pranks beware!

The contemporary nature of this movie stems from its typical adolescent portrayal & it seems hard to grasp what kind of message the movie puts, or tries to put across really.

You get the psychological deceit element, which makes your blood boil with these kind of movies. In a way it makes you wonder how you survived your teens! It's a bit bizarre, but then it is 2001!

To be honest if you are an adolescent or a teenager yourself, you’ll probably be able to relate more to the psychology of this film.(The movie has a 15 Certificate).

It’s interesting, by contrast, watching a cop scene at the beginning of this film in its ‘British guise’ as opposed to typical cop scenes in American movies!

one of the best films ever with a great twist at the end and the guys in it are hot lol, good acting on all sides and i really didnt see that twist at the end, cant wait till i get it so i can watch it again

i decided to buy it after seeing it on channel 4 about a year ago but missed the beginning so it hadnt all made sense.

I love this film! Fantastic storyline, great acting & very beleivable! I also find it better that it's actually English! :D Definatly a must have film if your into your thrillers!

The first time i saw this film i was drunk and i didnt see all of it, but from what i did see i realy liked and realy wanted the film.

This is a good film, and has a good storyline. It has a suprising end to it. Its not that scary, mor of a thriller film. Loved it! I reccomend it to any horror/thriller fan.

I thought the fact of brits in a Decent horror was great, but then the storyline was brilliant.

The film reaks claustrophobia and a "real sense" of losing hope that made the film scary and I've not used the term scary in years.

Brilliant Plot and Great acting. I really enjoyed the film and I have it on video. Ive now brought it on DVD and can't wait to watch it all over again. Brilliant twist :) Must see

Movie about schoolkids spending a short vaction in a old war bunker only to find they couldn't get out.
A great movie throughly enjoyed it.

very disapointed has item not sent. this is the second time i have paid for goods on ebay and i have not received them. i have not been buying off ebay because of this.

The beginning of the film is enough to get your blood pumping, then as the story unfolds and not knowing which way to turn the after effects are stunning. Who do you believe?

This seemed a very original idea and the fact it was set in England made it quite refreshing.
Upon the first viewing (When most good films have their biggest impact on the senses)this film ends up very shocking/disturbing.
It was towards the end of the film where circumstances suddenly degenerate to horrific and tragic levels.
I found the geeky boy (who led them into The Hole) a bit irritating but I think that was intended!
I bought the film, as, to me it's a must-have if you are into British gritty-type horror scenarios.You can't really pigeon-hole this into straight horror though.....?
It was clearly shown though what can happen when people are forced into close proximity for an extended length of time; beyond their will.

This is a fantastic film because of the twists and it is a brilliant film you can watch over and over again, this film defently goes in my top 10 of films because of the brilliant acting and how clever it is, if you have not watched it the watch it.

nothing to dislike about the film,but one was awfully glad that you picked it up on ebay than in the shops at full price. there was nothing to have you feeling that you have not been down this avenue before. come back hitchcock all is forgiven!

i bought it cause i only had it on video and wanted it on dvd. I like the film cause it has thora birch in it and it's quite different to other films, it has an intense and enjoyable storyline and a reaaaaaaaaaaaally great ending.
