THE STORY:
The deranged assassin Mr Teatime has figured out a way to kill the Hogfather (think Santa but with porcine overtones). Knowing that without the Hogfather the sun will not rise, Death decides to boost the power of belief by impersonating the jolly fat man. Meanwhile, Death's (adoptive) grandaughter Susan takes it upon herself to stop Teatime's plans.

WHAT'S GOOD:
Pratchett fans will be pleased by the surprisingly faithful adaption of the Discworld novel of the same name. The character of Susan (played by the beautiful Michelle Dockery) is a wonderfully realised character with the perfect dry wit and cynicism which makes for a great protagonist. In fact, all of the characters are played to perfection by the all-star cast be it Marc Warren's psychotic Teatime or the bemused wisdom of Joss Ackland's wizard Mustrum Ridcully. There's plenty of humour on offer here too, with at least one good chuckle every ten minutes (the Oh God of Hangovers is particularly amusing). However, the element which made this film worthwhile for me is Death. The design of the character is really good, with the twinkling blue lights deep in his eye sockets being more effective than any amount of CGI could be. But it is Ian Richardson's vocal talent which, if you'll pardon the pun, really bring Death to life. Richardson manages to convey everything from Death's confusion over the human race to his rage against the Auditors perfectly. (ALBERT: "Never say die, that's our motto" DEATH: "I can't say it's ever been mine")

I enjoy reading Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. I found that it was hard to put the book into a film. It followed the plot but somehow lost the interest in the story. David Jason had a small part but was billed as the star. Everything was good, the acting, costumes, scenery but it just didn't hold your attention like the book did, for me.

Fantastic depiction of a classic Terry Pratchett novel - the characters are very well portrayed and Pratchett's humour is not left wanting.

Worth a watch, honestly! (Not cutting me own throat!)

Everybody loves the special features on DVDs, don't they? Even the people who don't watch them do, I am sure. Practically the only reason I would ever buy a DVD is so that I know I have all sorts of special features for every movie I like. Well, that and the quality.

Being a huge Pratchett fan, the fact that they made a Hogfather movie was really disappointing news to me. Movies never get it right, not the feel, not the story, certainly not the characters. Well, all this is true for the Hogfather, but what they did manage to make was a movie I really enjoyed, truly.
And with Sir David jason and Death in it, it can't help but be an amazing movie!

Anyone who loves Pratchett should really get this, especially all those who say "No, it can't be good, I don't even want to see it." Honestly, it is worth a look, despite not being what my vision of the characters was. Hey, and it scored 7.7/10 in IMDB and won a BAFTA and a VES and whatnot.

I have been a Terry Prachett fan for many years. The biggest worry in my opinion when watching an adaptation of a book is the charactures, places etc set in your imagination when you read them are not projected to your expectations.
I needn't of woorried with this dvd. Not only did it meet my high standards but supassed them-to say i was very impressed is an understatement. The discworld looks pretty much perfect, the charactures likewise-possibly the riducully needed to be abit more larger than life about him but thats just me being picky! I felt the story was told and directed in a fantastic way. All the actors/actresses cast were perfect also.
I felt there was just the right amount of special features to keep varying levels of fans entertained without being boring. I liked the idea of the 12 days to hogwatch very much but wish it was done in a slightly different way.

All in all a thoughly fantastic dvd well worth viewing! I seriously hope they make more books into films as long as they make them as good as this one!!! 5 Star!!

Loved The Hogfather, but then again I love anything by Terry Pratchet. Sky's interpretation of the book was spot on, and the casting of David Jason was a superb idea.

the third of the Terry Pratchett books to make it to the screen, but the first live action...an excellent adaptation and a great film to watch...hoping someone picks up the remaining books for adaptation to the screen.

  Great fun!

This is a really great fun two part made-for-tv film. Teatime (the villian) left chills down my spine, especially with the excellent scoring done. The characters were well thought out and the humour spot on. The pairing of the character "Death" and David Jason's character were a brilliant pairing! As per usual David Jason played his character to perfection, never failing to lighten the storyline and bring it back to life.
Definitely recommended for everyone, although I can see why young kids would find it too frightening and the mild violence (a bit of stabbing) too much.

Terry Pratchett is one of my favourite authors. I have been waiting a while for one of his books to be made into a film. Runs for 185 minutes and well worth it.Cast include David Jason,Nigel Planer and Ian Richardson whose the voice of death. The whole family would enjoy this film.

  A good film to watch.

I believe that I have read all of the Discworld books so I am pleased to watch a film version of one of them. The film has been well made but I have some reservations about the choices made of the actors for some of the roles.
Overall I enjoyed it very much and I am looking forward to watching the next one.
On the off chance that any film maker reads this may I stress the importance of clear diction by all of the cast. The plot looses so much if one cannot hear the words.
