REALEASE: November 21st, 2007
DIRECTOR: Xavier Gens
WRITER: Skip Woods
STARRING: Timothy Olyphant, Dougray Scott, Olga Kurylenko, Robert Knepper, Ulrich Thomsen, Michael Offei
STUDIO: 20th Century Fox
GENRE: Action, Thriller

Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant) has been educated to become a professional assassin for hire, whose most powerful weapons are his nerve and a resolute pride in his work. 47 is both the last two digits of the barcode tattooed on the nape of his neck, and his only name.

The hunter becomes the hunted when 47 gets caught up in a political takeover. Both Interpol and the Russian military chase the Hitman across Eastern Europe as he tries to find out who set him up and why they're trying to take him out of the game. But the greatest threat to 47's survival may be the stirrings of his conscience and the unfamiliar emotions aroused in him by a beautiful, damaged girl...

MOVIE REVIEW

Unfortunately not the ultimate film we was all hoping for.
Great action and good acting however the film is lacking.
As always when games are converted to films we all have certain expectations and this film doesn't meet them.

As a stand alone film it's an enjoyable watch
As a Hitman conversion we wanted so much more
A real shame

7/10

After nearly a month of trying to get this DVD I managed to win a copy at a decent price.
But then the seller had a problem with ebay and is no longer registered with them and luckily I did not have time to pay the seller.
Will try to get another copy.

Bought Hitman 2 for a very good price only to find it is a computer game, and this is the last thing I need to waste my time on.

Hitman continues the grand Hollywood tradition of completely failing to turn a computer game into a decent movie. Timothy Olyphant is the nameless title character, a freelance assassin trained from birth at a mysterious assassin's polytechnic. Unfortunately for Agent 47, he's been set up by his own organisation and marked for death, so all the other hitman from his graduating class are planning a fatal high school reunion. Meanwhile, Dougray Scott's interpol agent watches from the sidelines in baffled admiration.

The central premise of Hitman, a stealth-based computer game, is far too flimsy to withstand the unflinching gaze of the movie camera. Let's take a single, glaring example: Olyphant's nameless killer, like everybody else from Hitman High, is bald and has a large, prominent bar code tattooed onto the back of his skull. This makes him remarkably easy to spot in a crowd, a disadvantage which the film blithely illustrates on numerous occasions. Of all the skills your kick-ass professional murderer would want on his or her CV, one imagines that "instant recognisability" wouldn't rate very highly.

"BUCKETS OF GLOBBY ARTERIAL BLOOD"

For some reason, 47 finds his protective instincts stirred by an abused prostitute (Olga Kurylenko). He expresses these newfound emotions by locking her in the boot of his car and drugging her when she decides - bizarrely - to seduce him. Back in London (London England, as the subtitle helpfully reminds us) Dougray Scott smokes moodily and argues with the Russian secret service, who refuse to believe that 47 really exists. One can't blame them really. Director Xavier Gens pads out this anorexic narrative with soulless but reasonably choreographed gun battles, and buckets of globby arterial blood.

Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. There's only a 20-minute interview with the director and other shot "making-of" vignettes.

Movies of video games - usually not very good. HITMAN will never be regarded as a classic movie, it's plot is thinner than the hair on Timothy Olyphant's head, but it's action scenes more than make up for these shortcomings. Give it a go, you may be pleasantly surprised!

An all action roller-coaster thriller that tells the twisting tale of a hit man caught up in a life or death game of international intrigue and violence. The film is fast paced without being frantic and holds the attention from start to finish. Some of the action set pieces are remarkable. An excellent cast take their roles well and are believable in their characterisation. All in all a great evenings entertainment. Much to my surprise the sort of film to keep and see again.

  HITMAN UNRATED

After playing Hitman Contracts on Playstation 2 and Hitman on Xbox. I decided to buy the film of Hitman on DVD where Agent 47 played by Timothy Olyphant (Live free or Die Hard). A genetically engineered assassin with killer style deadly aim. Eliminates strategic targets for a top secret organization. But when he's double-crossed on a mission, the hunter becomes the pray as agent 47 finds himself ensnared in a life-or-death game of international intrigue and violant retribution. Also if you watch the Special Featues you get to see bits of the game as well as the film, and how the music was done and even the
weapons and how to use them.
I even liked the sword fighting on the train just like on the game there is even the surringe. 47 uses one on a women to put her to sleep so that he can get on with his job. Cast included Dougary Scott (costume desingner.)

Hot, bald man killing everyone--what's not to like?
Review created: 21/11/08(updated 24/11/08)
by:

The plot may be so-so, the script a bit cheesy, the acting not stellar, and the film itself based on a video game, but I love this movie anyway. While Timothy Olyphant might not be your idea of an action hero, I think the fact that he's in this role adds depth to the character of Agent 47, an anonymous, cold-blooded, methodical killer. Plus, he's hot bald.

A satisfying amount of slaughter with a good variety of action. The actor was perfect for the hitman role. The cinematograhy and editing were excellent. Theres even a naked women with a nice ass and a russian gunship unfortunately not in the same scene. Also Hitman kills just about everyone including cops however he does spare the women with the nice ass. This was enjoyable and I would like to see more.

  THE HITMAN
Review created: 20/06/08(updated 20/06/08)
by:

I saw the ad for this film and decided to give it a go i was lucky to own a blue ray player and the picture quality and sound was super excellent. If you love fast, action pack films this is one for you. The shooting and sword scene is excellent and do the title justice.
Now the dislikes as i have said a goodish film for the above scenes, the director might give you lots of people dieing and great stunt work, but as for the story-line it just was not there.
When the hit goes wrong leaving the hitman being chased by 2 different groups and 2 governments it's just not strong enough to carry it though or the great looking hitman. the film leaves you feeling a bit riped off as it reaches the climax within 5-10 Min's of that it reaches the end, That's my bane it's Short Short Short 94 Min's, but the blue ray disk comes as a 2 disk special with a digital copy of hitman for portable media player and there is a alternate ending
I was overall disappointed with the shortness of film but would watch just for fighting scenes

i am a big fan of the hitman video games, so when this movie came out at the pictures, i couldnt wait to see it. In my opinion, the movie was done really well, and there was lots of refernces to the games. By this i mean lots of 3rd person scene's where agent 47 is walking down hallways, the same style of walk as in the video game, and the same short cut movie scene's that you get inbetween levels. Sometimes you get a bit lost at the movie, but it all builds up for an excellent ending. Must buy for people who are a fan of movies that have been taken from video games.

A little less action than I was expecting, then again it was only a cert.15. The Hitman was a little too nice for a man bred on an assassin conveyor belt with only a number for his name, but the film was definately well worth watching and can be easily associated with the video game of the same name.
