The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy (DVD 2002)

I went to the cinema to see this film with my boyfriend, the advert for this film made it look so good to watch, Huh, second prize i got, this film is one of the worst films i have ever seen. I dont like football, But i would have rather sat down and watch a game of football than this film, It is one the most stupid and boring film and a total waste of money. The only good thing was the popcorn. Don't bother wasting your money buying this, ITS TOTAL RUBBISH.

We decided to buy the series because we thought it was great years ago when it was on T.V. My partners received the dvd for his birthday... The dvd was new and ebay was the only place selling this series as we check at hmv and virgin...Love the dvd... Many thanks...

I'd bought the most recent version of the 'Guide' but I remember seeing the origonal on TV and purely for nostalgia I wanted to see it again so I bought this one. It may be less blessed with 'effects' but for me it's the best. The new Marvin the Paranoid Android isn't a patch on the older one.

I was a bit wary when I got this film as a few years ago, I started to read the books but gave up after a few pages - but how wrong was I!!! :o)
I LOVED this film!! The cast were great and the story itself was wacky and crazy enough to be great fun to watch!
As I haven't read the books yet I'm not sure how far from the original story they've strayed, as they tend to do with films like this, but it was a very enjoyable film and one you'll definitly want to watch again and again!!

To remind us of an excellent series and enjoy the ones we missed. Lived up to all expectations and enjoyed by grandchildren who had never encountered the madness and have been re-watching ever since.

The TV series is so much better than the new DVD, i've been a fan for years, was really excited over the new film and very disapointed when it came out - you must see the original TV series it is so funny - they took all the good bits out of the new film - do not judge Douglas Adams on the new film, he is better than that - Watch the original TV series and read the books they are both brilliant - Then try his other books also very fuuny

What can I say about this that has'nt already been said a thousand times over?
Well, I bought this ( on Ebay )becuase I had'nt seen it in years,and having watched the new film relatively recently wanted to re-visit it.I do think the new film is good,but there are aspects of the original that you have to love!
I personally think the two main characters are brilliant,especially Ford Prefect.And are both better portrayed than the film version. Marvin,and you HAVE to give him a special mention rally,is absolutely spot on in this series.He really is the paranoid android,who moans his way around the universe (and did you spot him in the film version?),and comes over as a charactor not just a robot.And,for me,Peter Jones voice over is perfection.He has something that really gels with this.In a nutshell,if you enjoyed the film (I did) I think you'll love this.I know it's a very subjective thing and quite often the first version of what we see or hear becomes our reference point, but the BBC series has a different feel to it and in some ways is a seperate entity.The only very slight minus is the fact that because the series is twenty years old,or so,the actual quality is not as good as it would be now.It's not terrible,but there is a bit more grain etc.,so you can see it's not of the digital age.Also the packaging,on my one anyway,is good (and includes a picture of Marvin on the box!)This is the BBC at it's best,and like the recently released Monty Python dvd's is not only good in content but also inpresentation.You won't regret buying this,on a wet winters night you'll put it on,intending to play one or two episodes,but end up watching the entire disc! I would recommend this box set.

Loved it back the days it was originally broadcast, still as good now though more obviously dated than I remember it. Holds up surprisingly well against the movie in that the characters seem more real though the effects do not compete.

considering the time this series was produced the 80s , the series uses clever acting , and graphics that where ahead of the times , funny and thought provoking ,

Like the difference between the original italian job, or gone in 60 seconds, the new just doesn't match up to the orginal. Hitchhikers, is funny throughout and i'd urge anyone to watch/buy the original over the outstanding awful new film.

The first Film/whatever is always your favorite, any later versions seem poor in comparison.
I bought this as I remember being blown away by the series on TV. I hadn't heard it on the radio.
I have seen the film, but prefer the TV series version for the above reason.

I am extremely delighted with this film and would recommend it to anyone who loves the book and the very best in comedic acting!

When first read the book was weard ,yet compelling. On second reading it was crap. I left the book for some other poor sod that had to endure two weeks in the Benidorm Plaza. Smoke man smoke, smoke eh! I coughed for two weeks. Why did I buy the DVD? Good question. Bonfire night is comming, no. I am a poor sick sod,yes. I have watched a bit, it's like reading the book again three times. When I resell it on Ebay, Buy, Buy its great. To be recommended.

The original series (as opposed to the new movie) has aged quite badly and now looks dated. But this only adds to the charm of the thing. While the new movie relies on the now standard visual effects, the original series has to make do with the limited technology of the time. This leads to aliens in rubber suits, space ships that don't fly smoothly, and an electronic book that works like an early 1980's computer. Despite all this (or perhaps because of it) the film stays relatively true to the book it was based on. The jokes are corny, the acting often wooden, and the dress sense appalling, but the film really captures the spirit of the universe it was created around perfectly.

In short, I love this film, and those who enjoy sci-fi comedy for what it is will love it too. Those who want ultra modern effects and rapid fire dialogue will probably hate it, but if you've read the book, chances are you'll enjoy the series much more than the new film.
