Album Notes Paul Weller has remained one of the most important and restless artists of the British rock scene throughout the 1970s, '80s, '90s, and 2000s. Aside from the inestimable influence of his work with the Jam, Weller continued to explore post-punk, soul, R&B, house, psychedelia, and various forms of roots music with the Style Council and in his solo career.HIT PARADE is the first-ever retrospective to encompass all aspects of Weller's career. Disc one is devoted to the Jam, while disc two focuses on the Style Council. But with the amazing (if familiar) Jam material already ensconced in the rock pantheon, and the Style Council's uneven output still up for evaluation, the real pleasure here is the two discs' worth of Weller solo material, much of which proves him to be a songwriter of genuine vision. With 67 tracks spread out over the four discs, the set is a welcome portrait of the artist who--over time--evolved from revivalist, to experimentalist, and finally to traditionalist. The thing about this compilation is, that it's under no pressure to be fully comprehensive, as there are already some very well put together 'Best Of's' available for his Jam and Style Council phases (not sure if there is a detailed one for his solo stuff or not). You see, the joy of this cd is, that you grab a handful of hits from all parts of his career to give a brilliant overview, so with all this variety and killer tunes all on the one disc, you can't really go wrong. To call this a fine collection of music, is a bit of an understatement. Review ID: 10000000003978788 Was this review helpful? Report this review Reviews Was lent this by a mate.. was in the car, out the car, in the House,at work everywhere..ended up scratched up. This will now be backed up and left in its case. Paul Weller at his very best IMHO.. his new stuff is a bit 'Avante Garde' for my taste....(22 Dreams for the collector only) probably i just like 'poppy' stuff.. Stings gone the same way.. Classic tracks from a genius song writer A1 Review ID: 10000000008249773 Was this review helpful? If you are not too sure which of Paul Weller's albums to buy - then this is the one to go for - everything from The Jam, The Style Council and all of Paul Wellers solo hits are here. You forget how much good stuff Paul Weller has done over the years and how different and varied it is. Rock, blues and soul are all represented here.
