History Of Violence (DVD)

Decided to buy this item as I kept seeing the trailer at the start of films. Was a superb film but the ending was abit quick, didnt really explain much as to what happened after the main thing had happened. Would recommend to people who enjoy shooting/action films A++++.

This is a good film with some entertaining gore along with a couple of rather sexy scenes..I like the cheerleader look!..Viggo plays the part of ex-mobster/killer very well and Mr Harris as always puts in an exellent performance.The storyline is easy to follow but does'nt get too boring..Its abit tongue in cheek..I mean If the mob wanted to find someone they would.. no matter where that person chose to hide Im sure.. plus Id prefer a longer film as I thought some of the scenes were to short..Altogether though a good film..Not one for the family tho!!

I expected bloody senselessness and instead saw a film laden with the deepest human emotions. It was real. From youthful loving to hard violence, from simple innocent joys to the full depth of adult violence and sex, and ultimate redemption, this film has it all. Every piece of clothing and set, every camera angle and lighting propelled the story relentlessly. I was never bored, and never overwhelmed with overdone violence. Nothing was gratuitous. Viggo Mortensen proved he's one of the finest actors to come along in a long while. Maria Bello carries so much on her talented shoulders. With Mortensen she shines with alternately warming and heartbreaking truthfulness. Ed Harris was delightfully menacing, and William Hurt gave the liveliest and best performance I've seen from him.

This movie is about truth and redemption. It's the best film I've seen in a very long time. Kudos to Cronenberg, Mortensen, Bello, and all the cast and crew for what was for me a nearly perfect movie

I liked this movie; Viggo Mortensen once again delivers the goods. He plays the part of Tom Stall with believable confusion; and for a while you fall for it as much as his character's family does.

This makes his return to the violence of his past, however briefly, all the more surprising. The various mobsters range from the threatening (Ed Harris) to the laughable (William Hurt). The violence was good, if it ever can be, and I thought for the most part it was an excellent movie.

My only bug bears were the sudden change in his son from self deprecating joker to stall the bully to all out thug based only on his father's actions in one scene. Another was the sex scenes between Mortensen and Bello - they had no real bearing on the movie or the story it was telling, and seemed to be added in for effect by Cronenberg. The final one was the ending; whilst suitably Cronenberg with its vagueness, it would have been nice for the viewer to actually SEE more of the reconciliation between the family rather than just the pointed looks hinting at the resolution. These are the only reasons it got a 4 and not a full 5 stars.

However once again Mortensen delivers a faultless performance and you can see why he is one of the best actors around right now.

this film contains the perfect marriage including kids, the film takes a short sharp turn when Tom is forced to kill and he is named a past gang killer. he is forced to defend his american dream and kill his one enamy. It is filled with sex, action, murder and a split personality.
