The History Of Rugby (DVD 2004)

This is a very factual DVD explaining how we arrived at the Rugby game as we know it now, from why England wear white tops and international caps. This production will need to watched more than once in able to take all the information in. Early history off rugby is a bit hazy for it was some 50years after the games first started in 1823, when Rugby school looked back at their game and asked some off the old school Rugbairion, by now in their 80’s.
The DVD drops loads of names such as its founder and why the trophy should be called the Mackley trophy instead!!!! Most of its history is centered around the international circuit, how it was introduced to different countries, but not forgetting its grass roots how the Laws came about with the split of Union and league with Blackheath opting to allow punching, gouging and throttling still.
Watching this Historical film we can see how much the game has changed even in my playing times.
No matter how much you know about the games origins, there is still stuff on this DVD that you didn’t know or have since forgotten. Well worth buying.
