Hero (DVD 2005)

I have been a fan of Jet Li for some time now, and like many people, I was not able to go to the cinema when this movie was released, and I did not have the money to buy it when it was released.

I was thrilled when I saw this dvd on sale in the auction. I placed my bid, and, Hooray I won.

It arrived safely and in good condition. I have played it several times. As a martial arts fan, I very much enjoy the spectacular action and the amazing skill of these remarkable actors.

It's not just the action, or watching Jet Li smile and move like he does, I enjoy the traditional Chinese movie style - with the unrealistic flying through the air, and the greatly exagerated jumping - expertly grafted with the modern movie techniques that make a film worth watching again and again.

100 filims to see before you die included Hero. It is an intense multidimensional movie,fabulous artistic special effects. It is more like a piece of theatre than an action movie - an arty type would enjoy more.

Bought after watching tv program about the 100 films to watch before you die. Classic chinese martial art film, i bought it not for the story but the stunning photography and special effects which certainly lived up to the recommendation. A quentin tarrantino film and probably one of the best visual films he has ever made.

Brilliant film. Totally blown away by it when I first saw it on TV. Had to get it on dvd to watch over and be mesmerized once again. If you like martial arts films they don't come any better than this. Great story too.

i bought this as just getting into Jet Li films, but i was a bit disappointed, its not one of his best and quite complicated to follow.

This is a very good film. Up until 'Hero' I was never that impressed with any Asian movies marketed as 'Blockbusters' ; Crouching Tiger *pah* Bulletproof Monk *pah* Memoirs of a Geisha *double pah* . But Hero is in a league all of it's own. Essentially a simple story set 2,000 years ago in feudal China with a King beseiged by three would be assassins. He is visited by a lone warrior (Jet Lee) who recounts a tale of how he has personally killed the would be assassins on the Kings behalf and freed him from his self imposed prison.

I could not find fault with this move. The acting is great, the story is great, the action and fight scenes are fantastic - the scene of the two women swordfighting amoungst the red blossom trees is one of the best scenes in a film I have ever seen. The whole thing is beautifully shot. I would definately advise putting an afternoon or an evening aside and watching this film. It will not dissapoint.

Seller sent the Dvd promtly and no hassle. the product was as described and worked well. Would buy from this seller again!

As my heading suggests, this is definitely artistic, on many levels. And that is emphasised in the 'extras' where each elememt is focused upon. The music, use of colour, story etc are all 'classical' and if you want a film that concentrates on its appearance rather than action, this is for you. I'm not saying it's a bad film;far from it but personally I wanted more 'action'.
The fight scenes are well made but a little too much wire work for me and I guess I'm more of a treditionalist when it comes to 'kung-fu' films.
In a nutshell, if you want raw martial arts with lots of fighting, avoid this but if you want a visual and 'mental' experience, you wont find much better.

this is a brillant film. i went to the pictures to see it and was amazed. i have grown up with bruce lee etc films which you can not ever beat. but this is something else

More thought provoking than I expected. Unexpected twists and turns where I wasn't sure at any stage what really happened, or was I about to see version 3 of what might have happened. ....and what IS a Hero? (in this age of 10 minute celebrities)

ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT EVERY JET LI MOVIE IS AWESOME, ENGLISH OR ASIAN, AND HERO DOESN'T DISSAPOINT!!!

The Film content was good but this version was dubed, which detracted from the enjoyment, but this may be a matter of preference.

Forget about the story which is rather obscure just feast your eyes on the most awesome photography in the history of cinema!

This film is absolutely sumptuous and represents fine art in its' finest modern incarnation - Michaelangelo and Da Vinci et al would be involved in film if they were alive now, I'm pretty sure! This is painting with film, the painstaking and impossibly grand-scale creation of landscapes and imagery, of dreams and myths, taken to another level. The levels of excellence are maintained by everyone involved, the direction and the acting is superb and the camera work is breathtakingly brilliant and beautiful. Watch it and see for yourself... I have almost run out of superlatives...

Stunning film, well worth watching. Fantastic camera work, although maybe not as good as Flying Daggers or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

As a fan of all martial arts films this is an excellent example of this genre. The cinematography is stunning and the authenticity of detail on costumes makes this film stand out.

The martial arts scenes are explosive and well choreographed. Jet Li makes for a great central character with intense acting and strong martial arts skills.

The plot centres on a turbulant time during Chinas history when it was still divided into 7 Kingdoms and 1 ruler sought to unite all the warring kingdoms under his rule. He is dogged by 3 Assassins until word reaches him of a mystery hero in his kingdom who claims to have killed all 3 assassins on his behalf. Inviting the mystery hero to the palace to show him the proof of these kills the king discusses the details with him and finds many intriguing flaws in his story. Whilst delving deeper into the heros story to uncover the full truth, the king explains his reasoning behind atempting to unite all of China

very good and happy with my buy would not knock it and anyone else who is thinking of buying similar has a very good idea think it is brilliant and i am over the moon with it to be honest.
