From Hell (DVD 2003)

Bloodcurdling retelling of the Jack the Ripper story, concentrating on the opium-smoking detective (Johnny Depp with an excellent English accent) investigating the case. Strong on period atmosphere and well worth a look.

Decided to buy this film after watching it on Tv some time ago. Completely forgot about the film until one of my friends asked what i thought of it. From then i decided to purchase.
This is one of my favourite films with Johnny Depp delivering one of his best performances to date! A dark and emotional film with well handled levels of gore and blood, nothing too distubing but enough to un-nerve the weak stomached. Overall 5 out of 5, the film is well set and backrounds look authentic, shot in prague(correct me if i'm wrong).
Good film for fans of conspiracies and the ripper.

This is a film about one possible identity of who Jack the Ripper was. Thought provoking, shows London as it was in Victorian times, and how corruption was rife. Also includes Masonic rites and reference to the royal family of the times

ive never liked films that johnny depp has been in that much, and johnny depp him self because he is not the kind of actor that i like and i also dont like jack the ripper films and the history of him that much, but this film changed my mind of both these people, from hell was on tv one day, i watched a bit of it and liked it straight away and it changed my opinion of johnny depp and jack the ripper, and now i think johnny depp is a great actor, after i watched it on tv, i had to buy it off ebay for £1.04p what a bargain for a film like this ,from hell now is now my second favorite film, first being dawn of the dead (1978)and second being terminator 2.

Always been a Jack the Ripper fan and this movie is fantastic. Although not always historically correct, the story is gripping and the location shots brilliant. Johnny Depp is the best-as always and a great appearance by Robbie Coltrane. Definitely one for the DVD collection!

i am a big johnny depp fan, and have been collecting his films.

when i spotted this one advertised on ebay it was the perfect buy for me, the seller had good feedback so i went ahead and bid on the auction. i was successful and am very pleased with my purchase.

i bought it a month ago for a birthday present but now i will have to give it as a christmas present... and thats only if i recieve it. I have opened a dispute but a month and a half later and i have STILL not recieved my product.

Good quality, but advertised as new, it had fingerprints all over it and a few scuff marks, with no outer plastic covering, wouldnt have made a gift.

A very good film about the Whitechapel murders, perhaps the best so far. Acting is great, the setting is wicked - beautifully made-up and believable-, and the storyline will keep you hooked from start to finish even if you think you know the Jack the Ripper story inside out. Only criticism is that it doesn't look very much like Whitechapel - but everything else it includes of the 19th Century is realistic and well done.

If like me you love a bit of Johnny Depp, then this is a film for you. A really good film quite differant to what we all know him for (Capitain Jack Sparrow)this film is quite dark, but a must watch.

Great movie and Johnny Depp is wonderful as usual. A gret movie for anyone interested in Jack the Ripper and a great supporting cast. Am trying to replace all my movies i have on VHS to dvd so a added bonus when you get a bargain like this.

Every bit of the story is finsihed off with nothing leaving you with a :what happened there: question.

This is an Excellent Movie & another brilliant performance by johnny depp. It is about Jack the ripper & is played brilliantly by johnny depp. It has alot of great acting & quirky characters in it which really make the film & is very entertaining & quite a dark film at times.

They have done a really good job making the film quite realistic as it is set in the olden days & is a mixture of serious acting, comedy, romance & with alot of dark chilling parts too. It is not a bloody or gory slasher type film so its ok for kids & the family too but a very serious yet slightly quirky & funny good entertaining film & i loved it the moment i started watching it, although films like this set in the olden days & of this manner etc are not normally my type of film.

But it an excellent film all around & in all honesty i havent yet met a person who desnt like it. So it must be good!!!! Well worth a watch or buy..

loved this film, johnny depp gorgeous as ever, a must see A+++ the story line gave a new insight into this part of history. the never discovered seems now to make more sense. A much more beleivable tale than expected. You do have to have a reasonably strong stomach in some parts but what do you expect from a film about the ripper.

Very good film, mostly factual with a bit extra added. Lots of famous faces. Very enjoyable wpuld reccommed.

A brilliant film, captivating from the start till the very end, 100% recomended vewing!, great cast thoroughly enjoyed it. 10 out of 10.

Loved this film, and not only because it stars Johnny Depp! While it might be stretching the truth somewhat, it still holds your attention. It's not an easy subject to watch, but the violence is muted and my teenage daughter didn't find it disturbing. If you enjoy historical murder, (and Johnny of course), you could do much worse that spend the evening watching this!

Without a doubt, one of my favourite films around. Johnny Depp is awesome!! His portrayal of this haunted man, is both moving and disturbing, and certainly tears at the heart. Very touching story, incredibly well told, the artistry of direction is excellent, the scenes being beautifully shot, to bring out all the horror and emotion of the script, a classic movie, and one which certainly should not be missed!!!

This is a great movie and would recommend it to anyone.
I hate people who ruin the review because of personal issues when ordering off ebay.
This film has a great cast and an even better storyline.
