Album Notes
SAHARA BLUE is an album inspired by the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud.Personnel includes: Hector Zazou (guitar, keyboards, synthesizer, samples, electronics); Anneli Drecker, Gerard Depardieu, John Cale, Dominique Dalcan, Barbara Gogan, Sussan Deihim, Samy Birnbach, Khaled, Malka Spigel, Ketema Mekonn, Richard Bohringer (vocals); Mr. X (vocals, guitar, walkie talkie); Lisa Gerrard (vocals, yang ch'in); Brendan Perry (vocals, synthesizer, bodhran, darbuka, percussion, tin whistle); Daniel Manzanas (acoustic guitar); Kenji Jammer (guitar, programming); Vincent Kenis (guitar, bass); David Sylvian, Kent Condon (guitar); Denis Moulin (guitar, percussion); Nabil Khalidi (oud); Elizabeth Valetti (harp, background vocals); Renault Pion (bass flute, clarinet, saxophone); Christian Lechevretel (trumpet, trombone, organ, keyboards); Ryuichi Sakamoto (piano); Bill Laswell (bass, percussion).Engineers include: Oz Fritz, Jean-Loup Morette, Gilles Martin. On SAHARA BLUE, mercurial composer Hector Zazou has assembled an all-star cast of players from various electronic and experimental fields for a set that's simply universal in scope. Participants include percussionist Steve Shehan, Dead Can Dance duo Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard, journeyman bassist and producer Bill Laswell, Samy Birnbach, electronic duo Lightwave, actor Gerard Depardieu, Tim Simenon, David Sylvian, and a gaggle of others. Structurally, SAHARA BLUE is all over the proverbial map. Spoken word dialogues reverberate over gentle ambient atmospherics and glacial guitar ("First Evening"), crunchy tech-hop ("I'll Strangle You"), tribal pop-funk ("Youth"), and gentle, world-pop lullabies ("Black Stream"). It's a deliciously eclectic stew, magnificently composed and played, with Zazou as the ringmaster expertly corralling his troops for optimum sonic pleasure.

Editorial Reviews
3 Stars - Good - ...The title track...is one of the peaks....an exuberant...piece of work...

...SAHARA BLUE is an intriguing concept, and is overall, very succesful. It probably won't make you run out and read the complete works of Arthur Rimbaud, but it will make you appreciate Zazou's stylistic range and the skills of his many musical friends...
