Hans Zimmer - Gladiator Vol.1 (CD 2001)

Is Gladiator a great score? Heck, yes. Is Gladiator a great Hans Zimmer score? I don't know.
I have some problems with Hans Zimmer. His music is always closely connected with the atmosphere of the film (that is his task as a film composer, and he succeeds), but his music has to be well orchestrated to catch the ambience of the movie. Many of Zimmer's orchestrations are done by other people (friends and co-workers at Media Ventures) who do very good work. Alas, it is not Zimmer's work, and I always find myself wondering which part of a Zimmer score is Zimmer's work and which is not.

This said, I really LOVE this music. It is exiting as well as emotional. The action cues ("The Battle," "Barbarian Horde") are fully overblown and I LIKE that kind of bombast. Its thrilling performance gives this soudtrack a perfect listening experience.

The vocals by the wonderfully talented Lisa Gerrard give a shining, elegant grace to this album. Gerrard's emotional approach combined with Zimmer's bombast is a masterstroke. It's obvious that Zimmer does NOT deserve all credit. Without Gerrard's contribution, this would't be such a good score.

Sometimes I wonder how this music would sound live (as I do with every score I love). In Gladiator's case, I had the pleasure to actually hear the music live in Ghent, performed by its creators. Let me tell you something, it was AWESOME!!! Lisa Gerrard (and others like John Powell) were peforming as well. A splended evening.

This is one of my favourite Hans Zimmer Soundtracks.... definitely worth having in any cd collection

My Dad, who is not internet conversant!! could not find this CD anywhere in the shops. So I looked it up on EBAY and found several copies immediatly.I bidded on this one and won it . The item arrived quickly and is in mint condition - costing half of its original retail value!!
He is now a very happy Daddy!! I will always check ebay before I go and buy anything from the shops!!

Fantastic music - all round good listening - if you get chance then get the extra Gladiator music cd too

i bought the sound track for my husband as he loves the film and whilst on holiday heard it in a shop when wecame home he said he would like it so i looked it up on ebay and hey presto half the price including the posting id say an even better sound as it cost us less.

The Gladiator Soundtrack is very powerful and, like the film, it takes you through a journey of different emotions, from battle scenes with recognisable hints of Holst's "Mars the Bringer of War" and the famous music from "Battle of Britain", to some stunning vocals that will put a lump in your throat!
Fans of the Last of The Mohicans soundtrack will love this cd.
I have always loved this soundtrack and bought this item for a friend who was dying to hear this.

this is the second time ive purchased this cd. just love the music. the raw emotion of the battle, to the death of maximus. lisa gerrard voice is suberb, highly recommend.

Bought it because enjoyed sound track on film . Haven't been disappointed. Music just as good without the pictures!

BRILL first class easy listening music really recomended so good you can understand why the film was a huge hit......

I loved this film! I really enjoy music soundtracks from my favourite films (i have all the Lord of The Rings Music CD's and Pirates of the caribbean 1). I find this is the best way for me to enjoy classical music as it's not just an orchestra, it has meaning to me. I can imagine the film as i listen.

This Gladiator CD is up there with best of them. What a lovely way to pass a car journey, especially on your own when you can crank it up loud x

If you think that classical music is too much for you, buy it in a film soundtrack form and you can get lost in a world of wonderful powerful, dramatic and sometimes sad moments that are relevant to your favourite movie.

One of the best soundtracks/scores around very powerful and very emotional and you cant help but go back and listen to it over and over again.You can now also get the 2 disc version of the soundtrack/score with vol 1 disc and vol 2 both for a very good price on the internet which is even better then the original with more music and lots more to offer than vol 1.If you a lover of the film or of just powerful music this is a must buy.

i loved gladiator the film and the music .now iv got the music in the car so relaxing and would recomend it to every trust me road rag is now history .
