HTC Hero Smartphone

I initially bought this phone because of the new HTC sense interface, as well as because it runs google Android. After reading a couple of reviews on the web, I was expecting a sluggish experience, such as slow, unsmooth transitions and generally laggy interface.However, upon receiving the unit, I updated the phone with the new ROM available on the GTC website.

The phone is now very responsive, not laggy at all and over whole a very good smartphone/good alternative to the iphone. Eventhough the android market isn't as full as the apps Store from apple, it is growing daily and is full of useful apps.

I give this phone a 8 out of 10 - only because the camera really isn't what you would class a a decent phone camera.

It's very expensive, however, I found www.freeiphoneforme.co.uk and got one for free!

I was in two minds whether to go for the Apple 3Gs iphone, Samsung Jet or HTC Hero. I have to say, I have made absolutely the right choice in choosing the HTC Hero! It took me some getting used to at first as it is the first touchscreen I've ever owned. The clarity of the screen is fantastic! For texting, there is a choice of keypad or qwerty keyboard style. To have the keypad style is a bonus for me as it is so much quicker to text. The touchscreen is incredibly responsive & it has so many features that I've yet to discover exactly what everything else this smashing little gadget does. Wi-fi was a doddle to set up & it is quicker browsing the internet than I expected it to be. The pinch effect to enlarge web pages is equally as good as the iphone. The camera produces good pictures. Battery life is fair depending how much you use it. All in all, it is a joy to use!

From the moment you first see the box you cant help but get excited about this gorgeous little phone. The phone is well packaged and comes with a charger, usb cable and a set of headphones with inbuilt controls. There is a very basic 'getting started guide' included in the box. In all honesty the phone is that easy and intuitive to use that it doesnt need an instruction book. The phone feels snug in the hand and must be coated in something, because it is both smooth to the touch and grippy (if such a word exists).
The phone is easy to use and the Sense UI is a delight. There are hundreds of app's available from the Andriod Market which increase the capabilities of the phone and most of them are free! It boasts a 5MP camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, media playback and lots lots more.
Having previously had an Apple iPhone, in my opinion, this phone beats the iphone in everyway. Something that I dont say light heartedly as the iPhone is a great phone in itself.
If you do manage to get yourselves one of these phones you won't be dissapointed.

I have been using this phone for a 2 days, and i love it, with the new Sense UI i have everything the way i want, and not to mention it brings android and mobile computing/communication to a whole new level, i find this phone perfect for my needs, the camera is not the best, but it certainly is better then the over-rated iphone...

What is there to dislike?, this phone is perfect for me, it can even be a metal detector something the iphone cannot do!

p.s if you have read other reviews that say that it is a bit "Sluggish" etc etc, thats not a put off, the newer firmware sorts that all out, and the new one due soon makes it a whole lot faster, (We need to remember that those reviews were written when the device first came out) and myself i have not noticed any slowness or sluggishness at all!

The HTC Hero is a big contendor for dominance of the touch screen mobile market.

The styling of the HTC is very distinctive and striking. It is a very good looking phone.

The touch screen is amazing and very sensitive and very accurate. The screen is made out of hard plastic. Other rivals screens are made of glass, which is very fragile and can crack very easily.

The HTC hero also has a tract ball (like a pc mouse) that can be used to navigate through the phone.

The phone also supports Wifi, Bluetooth, Fast internet, and a 5mp camera (the camera can struggle to focus sometimes.)

The software or widgets are very well supported for the phone too.

All in all, this is one of the best phones availiable and has so many features and support. If you dont want to follow the crowd, I would get this phone.

Currently, there is no Bugatti Veryon of the phone world. However there are alot of super car type phones on the market. For instance the iphone 3g that people rave about would probably be a Ferrari, the Samsung Omnia an Evo, but people buy their phones/cars for different reasons and we don’t all want to join the Ferrari club so then what. Well the HTc has proven to be a good alternative. One could call it a lambogini, delivering performance that rivals and betters the iphone depending on the functions used such as the multi tasking ability and customization of the multi screen home page.
You’d probably have read up on the phone and all it does if not you should do so now as I am only going to outline a few of the things that this phone really does do well so here are just a few important Pros and Cons

Pros:
Fully customisable 7 screen home page, everything you want, all your favourite apps in a few slides of your finger.
Android market allows you to download lots of free aps, ringtones, games etc.
Great touch screen interface, texting is great and my hands are huge as in scary huge.
Good sound, average camera but great in day with 5mp, alas no flash for night time.
Android operating system not windows so things like surfing the net and usability way better. If you have a windows phone then get this you will prefer it.
Internet, Gps, Gprs 3g email the usual all great. First time I have had ‘H’ appear which is high speed broadband faster than 3g.
Cons:
Set up can take time if your phone provider does not support it, but this can be sorted easily enough
There is lag that people talk about but it is laughable that it is even called lag. Its like turning the pages of a book and having to lick your finger once in a while, does that really spoil the reading.. err no. The actually phones works very fast and its more likely it just gets ahead of itself.
And your grubby fingers will dirty the screen so get a screen protector, but really there are no real cons with this phone, it’s all about what you like and if you want to be different but as good. If you really love the iphone then get one if you don’t then get this!!

In short, when upgrade time comes I will ask if this has been made into an HD version and get it, if not, would wait!!

Excellent handset that is truly 100% customisable to your changing lifestyles.
Lots of useful apps available.
Downside is the battery life is not the best but gets you through a day with medium usage, and the onscreen keyboard is not too accurate but the handset automatically works out what your trying to type 99% of the time and automatically changes it. Several important apps missing from the handset but available to download free, including task killer(to close open applications running in the background) and file explorer to easily locate any pics,music,documents stored on the handset/memory card.
Unique styling seperates this from the crowd.
Would recommend this to everyone its a revelation in mobile technology

Iphone 3gs?, What Iphone 3gs? Nah, it's all about the HTC HERO, An amazing phone, that should do everything u want it to, I know it does for me!

HTC mobile is what I wanted. this will last me ages. Just need to unlock it now to get the best out of it. Seller was helpful and spared some time after work to meetup and hand in my mobile.

There is nothing that I can add to the reviews already written, about the great capabilities of this phone but wanted to say that 4 hours after picking the phone up, (with no instructions)I was able to use more of the facilities tha I ever have on any conventional phone! I am like a child on Christmas morning, lol.

The software that comes with this HTC just works. It has a software keyboard which has better prediction than I expected although my fingers are quite big. The camera takes awfully a long time to focus and take a picture and captures horrible pictures in low light conditions. Better performance is very good till now. The Android Market had all the applications that I required without making me resort to rooting the phone. It however feels great to know that the phone is future proof by simpling upgrading the software.

Great phone, easy to customise so you can get at things quick. GPS even with Google map works well. If you have a Gmail account then this phone syncs with it perfectly.

Smashing phone. Takes an hour or so figuring out the menu and its little touches and after that you're flying- very very happy!

Hi, I have to say that this mobile phone is absolutely amazing! It does all a mobile can do and it does it fast. I would strongly recommend if you are a bit a electronics gick and you are a non-iphone fan.
HTC and Android it's a perfect match.

It's a nice phone and I must say this is the only alternative to iPhone but very poor battery life and have to restart it every night if i want snappy performance, Forget to mention call voice quality is awesome.

Lovin it, has some great features, app store not as full as Apple's but its getting there.

I had the iPhone, iPhone 3G and tried out the iPhone 3Gs, will definitely recommend this phone over the iPhone.

The G3 system is wonderful, especially when I upgrade the latest fireware. The user's sense is good, and the software on the market is excellent.

Amazing, always fancied an iPhone but after using the Hero I had to buy one. It’s far better (and cheaper) than the iPhone and similar handsets. The interface is intuitive and easy to use, there’s loads of apps on-line, it’s an amazing piece of kit. Never thought I’d defect from Microsoft after several years of Windows based smart phones, buy one!.

I love this phone, HTC made a great job with the sense UI, and the Android platform is the future of mobile because of the openness and the freedom it provides.
I would recommend this phone to anyone that wants a lasting phone with the latests cutting edge technology. This phone is upgradeable so it will be better over time.
I love the way Teflon feels on the back of the phone.
The only think I think need improvement is the camera, maybe with the updates goes better.
