When GNR unleashed the Use Your Illusions on the world, the world was surprised. Appetite was such a raw and emotional album that expressed it through slick guitar riffs and a screechy Axl, and these two albums, especially Illusion II focus on the musicianship of the band. A matured GNR focuses on better written lyrics than Slash's amazing guitar ability. No taking anything away from him but merely comparing to previous albums. Songs like So Fine, Don't Cry, Yesterdays and Estranged seem softer, but You Could Be Mine, and Civil War keep fans satisfied as far as heavy songs go.

As usual Axl rose "hits the nail on the head" with his singing skills and Slash, Duff, and Izzy have all contributed to the songs themselves and wrote some of there own. Pretty Tied Up - wrote by Izzy, So Fine wrote by Duff. Songs like Civil War actually describes the civil war (amazingly) and the Knockin' On Heavens Door cover was brillant it could not match to the original by Bob Dylan.

When it actually comes to music, I'm the soloing kind of guy! And as a guitarist I must admit that everything I have learnt about soloing has come from Slash's mighty shreds and balads! Many of his skills from this album has definatly rubbed off on me (even if I do say so myself!). So basically, this is an amazing CD for ANY guitarist of ANY quality!

GNR can never put out a greatest hits. They have basically already done that four times. Each time a new album comes out GNR proves why they are the best rock band. If you don't have it BUY IT. I promise that you will be hooked on GNR for good. If you lose it, BUY IT AGAIN. Must have for anyone who enjoys music on mulitiple levels, lyrically, musically, etc...

JUST GET IT!!

  Best Band Ever!

This album reminds me of my teens, especially my college years and seeing G 'N' R live at Wembley in 1992. I had the album on cassette but never updated to CD until now. I mainly bought it because my current boyfriend is also into Guns N Roses so I've been listening to them a lot more again lately.

Guns And Roses - Use Your Illusion 2
Review created: 08/02/09

Really, aside from its few significant highlights I'd say that I is largely skippable, which isn't the case with II, a less patchy affair that loads up on the epics, with four songs (each excellent) eclipsing the 7-minute mark. Beginning the proceedings with an excerpt from the movie Cool Hand Luke, "Civil War" is an atmospheric yet highly charged rocker that's highlighted by lyrics that actually seem thoughtful and Axl's scream for the ages at around the 5-minute mark. Interestingly, this song was actually recorded earlier for a benefit compilation with previous drummer Steven Adler, (sacked by the band due to his excessive habits, which must've been really excessive), who was replaced on the rest of these songs by ex-Cult drummer Matt Sorum, a technically superior player even if I personally prefer Adler's more rudimentary swing. Izzy then checks in with another strong Stones influenced mid-tempo greaser, "14 Years," before "Yesterdays" delivers a wistful pop song with a superbly singable melody

Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illusion Vol.2 (CD 1991)
Review created: 03/02/09

I bought this for my 15 year old son who tried to buy this in a shop without any joy, he was thrilled when we found it on Ebay and couldn't wait for it to be delivered.

In his words it was just as good as he thought it would be, its excellent. He has nothing bad to say about it.

Poco hay que decir de este album que junto con su primera parte forman un compendio enorme de grandes temas, rara vez un grupo es capaz de sacar en "un" disco tantos y tan buenos temas.
Un disco que no puede faltar en la colección de un rockero.

Essential CD for any music fan
Review created: 01/04/08(updated 16/06/08)

There are not many albums that can compare with the ultimate musical experience that is 'Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band'. Alongside 'Led Zeppelin II', Use Your Illusion vol. 2 is perhaps one of them.

Music aside - back in 1991 it was extremely unusual for any band to release a double album set like this and it surely must have took months of ingenious hard work to accomplish it. The release of the Use Your Illusion set was widely anticipated until it universally hit the streets in August 1991. Guns N' Roses changed album releases forever with this excellent addition to the 20th Century canon of Rock Music.

Use Your Illusion II is a timeless piece of work. It contains no less than 5 top 20 hits. Every song bar 'Yesterdays' is an 'extended' version, which means for the consumer, excellent aural pleasure!

The 'standard' non-release album tracks are completley mind blowing and have you pressing the rewind button! Pick of the bunch has to be 'Pretty Tied Up' with its arabic sounding intro, it kicks into a barnstorming Rock tune. This for me is possibly one of the best songs ever written by Guns N' Roses.

In-fact what is interesting about this conception in general is the mix of classic Rock and Rock ballad. It became the 1990's G N' R trademark. You have to say that 'Don't Cry', (which was a massive UK sucess and uniquely features on both albums, vol. 1 and 2) 'So fine' and 'Enstranged' are epitomies of this. Brilliant, simply brilliant.

To top it off is the never surpassed 'You Could Be Mine', a tune that will eternally rock any crowd well into the 22nd century. I ask you, lyrically and musically, has this kind in its genre ever been bettered?

10/10

  This is the one...
Review created: 08/03/08

...with all the ballads and longer songs on like Estranged. Very well produced and put together but I never liked it as much as the faster and more punky Volume 1. I always thought it would have been a better idea to make these 2 albums into 1 and have 15 songs on, saving the extras for EPs. GNR considered this but went for 2 separate albums as it would yield more cash.

Still rocks.
