The Gruffalo 2005 (DVD)

We went to see this in Reading a couple of months ago with my 4 year old son. He absolutely loved it, so I decided to buy a copy of the DVD and it is still just as good. We've even introduced his friends to the stage version as they already loved the story but having songs to go with it, well they love it even more now.

I was worried before seeing the show that my son might be scared of the Gruffalo but they make it so wonderful for the children there is no fear to be seen!

A perfect buy and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Thank you so much my daughter loves it, had to keep renting this from the library she watches it everyday never seen it in the shops. Waiting to see if its back on stage anytime soon as she never got a chance to see it would love to take her the gruffalo is deffinetely her new favourite.

My daughter was a fan of the gruffalo book so I thought I'd try this DVD...well, what can I say?? My daughter absolutely loves it. She can't get enough of it, watching it time after time (she knows most of the play by heart now :)).
This is a great play for kids 3+ with great songs in it, and excellent actors. They have really made the story come to life. Highly recommended!

what a fantastic dvd, this is fantastic for children it a filmed pantomime that is as great as the book. definately a must if your child enjoys the books

Great for kids who are bored with the book over and over again! This clever stage show brings the story to life with fun carachterisation and music - it will charm all those who love the book.

Having seen this on stage at the Edinburgh Festival I was thoroughly entertained, needless to say so was my 3 yr old. When I then discovered it was also on dvd I jumped at the chance and was not dissappointed. It's just as unique and charming as the stage show and I have since bought another copy for my nephew. This is a great show for all Gruffalo book fans.

My children adore this fun dvd. Having been to the live stage production of the Gruffalo, nothing is lost on the dvd. My children aged 2 & 3, sing the songs over and over, and have even developed their own Gruffalo dance. I would without question recommend The Gruffalo dvd. Worth ten times its retail price.

This is a great product, very useful for its target audience! I went to see the show at the theatre with my daughter, but she got very scared when the real-life Gruffalo came onto the stage so we had to leave, pronto. It's much more manageable on the telly - also for a three-year-old even a 50 minute production is a long stretch to sit through, so being able to stop and restart instead of sitting in the theatre is a great boon. It was the first production we've ever taken her to, and I think being able to 'revise' the experience will certainly help to make the next visit to the theatre more enjoyable. For those who don't have this agenda, it's an excellent production of this much-loved childrens' story.
Please note, as it takes about five minutes to read through the original story of 'The Gruffalo', the production features MOSTLY material that is not in the original - songs based on the narrative, discussions, etc. However, they have taken care to include the whole of the original narrative within the production, and give good scope for pint-size audience participation by hanging fire on key phrases and waiting for a response etc. Quite a few asides and remarks are clearly aimed rather above the children's heads, to keep the parents' interest from flagging too low while their offspring admire the animals - but these are very modestly and appropriately curtailed.
All in all, a great little production and reasonably unique in its properties of entertaining children at the same time as introducing them to the concept of theatre, and re-telling one of their favourite tales. Highly recommended.

Bought this for my 7 year old as we had just taken him to the theatre to see the sequel, The Gruffalo's Child. This is fantastic, great story, wonderful acting, great songs. Highly recommended to all who are young at heart

hi brought this film for my 4 year old son who loves the book about this.
i thought the stage show was ok but glad i didn't pay to go & see it. other stage show like fireman sam & scooby doo are 10 times better....i think that the team must of had a budget too work to???

If you are one of those parents who know the words to The Gruffalo off by heart, then this video is for you! A stage version of the fabulous children's story complete with catchy songs, it's a must for any Gruffalo fan. However, don't expect the characters to look like the animals they represent as they don't! this takes some explaining to a 3 year old but it doesn't detract from the production itself. I would highly recommend it!
