Gremlins/Gremlins 2 - The New Batch (DVD)

Devilishly dark humour and mischief romp about unchecked in the bizarre movie creation that is "Gremlins". The plot is thin and the pacing is askew, but this is a film that offers plenty of unpredictability, and a vicious streak enrobed in cornball humour.

Central to the mayhem is the deliriously cute Mogwai named "Gizmo". Bought from a curiosity shop and presented to Zach Galligan as a Christmas gift, it's every toy firm's dream of interactivity and playability. Except this is a real animal, and is issued with instructions to not get it wet and especially not to feed it after midnight.

Inevitably, it isn't long before both rules have been broken, with Gizmo spawning cute offspring that turn into hideous Gremlins. These foul creatures run amok, torturing and even killing the local residents. This is all staged with a macabre humour that is director Joe Dante at his best.

"Gremlins" has not garnered many good reviews, with most dismissing it as animatronic nonsense wrapped in crude tastelessness. But while the film has some slightly 'sick' moments, it really resembles a fairytale. And in this tradition, it presents the briefest plot and injects some cruel twists that are really quite funny.

The backdrop of a picturesque snow-covered town at Christmas offers maximum potential for villainous amusement, and the Gremlins don't miss a trick. They're obviously film buffs, and take great delight in poking fun at some of the classic fare we can expect to see on Christmas TV. Just hope that you don't find any Gizmos under the tree.

I have to confess i watched this when i was about 7 years old and it scared the living daylights out of me but that was before they recertified it bad man Spielberg LOL. This is a must see classic move I dint know any one who has grown tired of this one my son loves the 2nd movie its border line but i let him watch it. I recommend this one for families with older kids maybe about 10 or higher a must see you wont regret it.

Steven Spielberg’s 1984 smash-hit ‘Gremlins’ is the definition of entertainment, delivering something for everyone. There are scares, laughs, and even a little romance all wrapped up in one memorable film. When a struggling inventor (Hoyt Axton) arrives at a mysterious store looking for a Christmas gift for his son (Zach Galligan), he finds an adorable and unique creature (voiced by Howie Mandel). When he buys the animal,(whom he names Gizmo), he is told of the very important rules and responsibilities for taking care of the creature. No water can touch the friendly furball , sunlight can kill it, and it is not to be fed after midnight. Shortly after his son is given this amazing gift, things begin to go wrong. When water is spilled on Gizmo, it multiplies, and creates more of these adorable furballs. The problem is these creatures are much more rambunctious and wilder than Gizmo. They are also very clever, resulting in them being fed after midnight. This transforms these formerly cute furballs into much more scary-looking and dangerous gremlins, and this is where the wild fun begins as these creatures create havoc all over town.

The mischievous behavior of these gremlins will have you scared and laughing at the same time. It is impossible to completely dislike these dangerous creatures, as many of their crazy actions will have you laughing out loud. There are hilarious scenes in a bar and a theater that particularly show the appealing, yet scary nature of these gremlins. Watch and laugh as the gremlins go Christmas caroling in order to set up a hated, older woman. These gremlins entertain without missing a beat.

‘Gremlins’ also stars Phoebe Cates as the very attractive and beautiful young woman who has a close friendship with the character played by Zach Galligan. The movie makes the audience care about their friendship. Cates’ character struggles to be happy during the Christmas season, and Galligan’s character listens and tries to understand the root of her unhappiness. As they become closer, they must work together to stop the gremlins from taking over their peaceful, little town.

‘Gremlins’ is a movie that the entire family can enjoy. The scary look and some of the scary acts of the gremlins are often followed by hilarious actions putting a younger audience at ease. The special effects of this film are awe-inspiring, and the overall result of the film creates much the same outcome- it is never too scary and always entertaining. ‘Gremlins’ can be a reminder to all filmmakers of quality filmmaking and quality entertainment

Two great movies about a cute little furry creature good natured and sweet who lives by a few basic rules and what happens not once but twice when these rules are broken.

Cute in parts but frightening in others. A comedy in parts but beware, they lurk everywhere!!!!!!!

loved the first film so just had to get the box set !! was pestered into buying the double boxset by the kids after they saw the bt advert which featured the gremlins in the office !!

I bought this film because its a blast from the past, I thought my boys needed a bit of education from the 80s, we've been watching a few of the classics lately and they think there brillant.

it has been a favourite film since my childhood, then i saw the new bt advert and decided i had to buy the film lol, i still enjoy the film to this day, and so do the rest of my family

I wanted my nine year old to watch this 80's classic , because he had heard my older son going on about it...
We decided to buy the double edition...& we were very glad we did.

When I was young I really enjoyed these films, now have a son of my own and thought he would like the films too. I enjoyed watching them all over again and my son enjoyed watching them too.

it is a great film the old classic is funny but some bits scary the effect of the gremlims are great for its time and with the combonation of good rerses evil and cute verses ugly it is a all time classic horror film

After watching both gremlins 1 & 2 on tv i just had to get them on dvd to add to my collection, and even after watching them for the '100th' time i would continue to recommend both films as i personally could watch them over & over again, in particular the purchase of a boxset similiar to the one that i went and bought i would highly recommend!!

You have to watch this!

When you see Steven Spielberg films you know that they are going to be really good and with Gremlins it was a really good film.
The storyline was excellent as was the comedy.
I like Gizmo and when stripes came along the comedy got even better.
Talk about a Gremlin in the works there were lots of Gremlins in the works in these films.
I recommend anyone who needs cheering up to watch these films they will have you in laughter.

i got this item for my kids , and they love it they are 7 and 5 so they dont mind watching it again , and it gives ous 1 and a half hours of quite lol .
