Album Notes R.E.M.: Mike Mills (vocals, accordion, bass); Michael Stipe (vocals); Peter Buck (guitar, mandolin, drums); Bill Berry (mandolin, drums).Additional personnel: Bucky Baxter (pedal steel guitar); Jane Scarpantoni (cello); Keith LeBlanc (percussion).GREEN contains an unlisted 11th track. The album that found the band sandwiched between being an important cult band on the verge of major success and being the world's most successful rock band of the 90s. A tricky situation, but this album made the breakthrough and mighty Warner Brothers were behind it. R.E.M. were able to get their folky mandolin material like 'You Are The Everything' accepted on an equal footing with great pop such as 'Stand' or 'Pop Song 89' (which could have been written by Jim Morrison and titled 'Hello I Love You'). 'Orange Crush' is already an FM radio favourite, and the rest is all recent history. Editorial Reviews New Musical Express (09/25/1993) | |||||||||||||||

Report this review i decided to buy this cd in order to add a bigger variety to my music taste. usually mainly into heavy metal bands like iron maiden, acdc, motorhead etc. id heard some of the songs from this album from my brother and was impressed by what i heard. although i rate this a good album-it is somewhat inconsistent. what makes it good is that there are some excellent tracks on here. however on the down side there are tedius fillers that go nowhere. half a dozen songs make the album here. pop song 89, get up, stand, world leader pretend and orange crush are all awesome songs. theres nothing special about the others so il probly always just listen to the good tracks and never bother listening to the album all the way through again. coming from a guy who generally doesnt like the genre of indie ( i hate bands like coldplay and keane) i think i did well to find an album with a few songs i like of this genre. Report this review Being a great fan of REM I thought this would be a must have CD, I looked closely at the comments made about the music they were making at the time and decided that it had to be included into my collection... I have to say I wasn't let down in any way, great music, great lyrics and as always a truely great band... Review ID: 10000000001264454 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
