I was pleasently suprised when i brought it because of a friends recomendation. I like most of the songs on it and hey dont get old.
I started listenin to the first few tracks: 'American Idiot' which i had already heard and is a great single. Then came 'Jesus Of Surburbia' an incredible 9 minute song made up of 5 differant parts, every song on this album is great in differant ways and i doubt i'll ever get bored of them, especially what is surly to be the next single 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams'.
One of the albums of that year and well worth getting!

Ever since they recorded dookie this band have shot up to the pinnical of fame and fortune and with over 16 years of trying they finally hit the peak of it with this album, dookie and international super hits came close but this album was what the masses had been waiting for. This mix of punk rock and emo can be related to by both the hard rocks with a softer side and the emo pop loving fans, with the likes of American Idiot and When september ends, you can pick out any track on this album and exspect it to be a number 1 when the album was first released, such is the quality of this album, I personally prefer International super hits thesedays, but only because I know pretty much every word to all the songs on this album after the first 2 weeks of owning, as I listened to it that much. You must own this album, who ever you are as it appeals to so many genres of music fans.

I had never really listened to any of Green Day's music, untill they started releasing singles from the American Idiot album, which really had an influence on me, so I decided to buy the album, and Im very glad I did.
This album is absolutley brilliant, the songs are all very good, and the lyrics are very well written.

I would reccomend this album to anyone, because I think it will appeal to all audiences. 10 out of 10!

American Idiot is deffinately one of Green Day's best albums but not the best. I believe Nimrod is their best album although American Idiot comes close second. Jesus Of Suburbia is probably the best song on this album.

If you like these then its well worth adding to your collection!!

  GREEN DAY american Idiot!!!!!!!!

How cool are these guys?

Ive followed green day since before they were famous and believe me when I say this album is great I really mean it!!!

American Idiot, Holiday, Boulavard of brokern dreams, these are all songs we know. A bit more of a subtle approach with the chart extreme WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER COMES.
This album has it all from the punky past of the band to the upbeat tunes of there newer found selves.

Buy this if you love punk and rock merged into one and if your a fan of Green day.

Dont buy this if you dont like swearing, dont have a sence of humour or cant understand what the fuss is all about!!!! :)

Verdict: great album, great lyrics, well worth the money.

Green day came into fame as a punk band with no limits. Their new album 'American Idiot' Tells a tale of a person called Saint Jimmy/Jesus Of Subreria. Though a great album, Is not as Good as Dookie. It has some swearing in as well. They have gone of their ' Punk Rock' To appeal more to the public and their only punky songs on this album are 'American Idiot' and 'She's a rebel'. Overall though a great buy.

"Wake me when september ends" et "Give me novacain" sont trés douces et trés belles. Cet album est idéal pour les fans de Green Day et pour les amoureux du rock!

I bought this album off ebay as I had been meaning to get for a while. Its such a talked about album-we had heard some Green Day live recordings and we had to have it!
Its good to play loud, really loud! And great to sing along to, pretty good for driving too-just make sure you don't go too fast!

Nothing to dislike about it.

....comes that rare album where I like all the tracks. American Idiot is one of those albums, I don't think it came out of my car stereo for 2 months after I first played it and I do a LOT of driving. Green Day certainly hit the nail on the head with this one & I hope teir next album will be as good.

I love greenday! This album is good, although not their best but certainly is great! Love it! It's got something that seems to appeal to the younger teenagers, and is starting to get them into a band I loved at their age! My nieces are about 12, and have fell in love with american idiot, as a result went off to find their earlier stuff, which i think is great. It also keeps their old fans happy!

and btw, the tour for this album was amazing! (Milton Keynes- 65k people! and I only had 4 people stood in front of me!!!! :)

  All Killers and no fillers
Review created: 30/08/09

I believe this CD was written from scratch, when Green Day arrived into the studio having spent nearly 18 months working on their new release - only to find all the master tapes (and all their work) had been stolen. They decided not to try and 're-create' the missing songs, but to start again from scratch.
I don't know whether some of the anger this must have created for the Band translated into the 'piss n vinegar' that runs through the songs but whatever - they really nailed it with this so called 'Rock Opera'.
That several of the songs flow seamlessly into each other is also well done, particularly Holiday (in my view the best song) and Boulevard of Broken Dreams. This is one of those rare albums you can start listening to on track one and just let it glide through until the end, a measure of the hard work that must have gone into it by Billy Joe Armstrong (lead singer & chief songwriter), Mike Dirnt (bass) and Tre Cool (Drums).
Because the songs are so simple and direct, with little more than drums, bass, Guitar and vocals, each performer has to be outstanding - and they are. Tre does not miss a beat, the drumming forming an integral part of each song. Mike fills the songs out and then Billy Joe splashes guitar here and there, all topped off with his plaintive voice and controversial lyrics.
I really really rate this Album, for me it is their best and Holiday is Green Day's best song. I would go so far as to say it's made it to my top ten all time CD list!

How does a Brit do this without being nasty to yanks?
Review created: 25/06/09

Well to start off, you don't have to buy the "hate Bush" message opf thealbum to appreciate it, and it is more of an anti-Bush project than an anti-yank one...

As punk rock albums go there have been none in the 21st century that have made quite the same splash as this. Green Day's most groundbreaking piece of work, the songs are about as subtle as a brick in their message but enhanced for it. Whilst not quite as polished as 21st Century Breakdown, American Idiot suits the time it was released, capturing the moment of an America tired of itself, of a president who had managed to become the focus of anti-establishment hatred that had been steadily building for years, if not decades. The format of a intensely political album has been copied extensively post-Idiot, but after 9/11 it was moments such as this release that broke Bush's honetmoon period. As a concept album Idiot's a bit more hit and miss, "Holiday" and "Wake Me Up When September Ends", and almost the title track to an extent don't really fit in but other than that it makese for an album greater than the sum of its parts.
American Idiot is certainly a worthwhile addition to any collection, and i would recommend it to anyone. Singles "American Idiot", "Holiday", "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "Wake Me Up When September Ends" all are good tracks in their own right but work far better as part of the album.
One last point you should be aware of is the track numbers. Originally eight of the tracks were paired up on the track listings, to reduce the album to 9 tracks. The album-length listening this encourages enhances the listening experience the annoyance of having to paly though some tracks to reach others may drive you up the wall. The copy i got was a later edition with the tracks seperated again, which though more convenient gives the album a less unified feel. Chose which you'd prefer, then make sure you auction for the right one.
Other than that, a good buy.

  Green Day, American Idot.
Review created: 06/08/08

This album brought Green Day to the forefront of modern punk/rock music, they had been a fairly underground group with a fairly small but loyal following including myself. Then came this album with the title track released as the first single Green Day burst through and everyones ears pricked up as the charts were given a kick that they needed at the time. Appearences on mainstream music programs and radioplay. Holiday, boulevard of broken dreams, and when September comes were released as singles which secured Green days future with the music loving masses.

bang on punk opera at its best. One of best punk bands since the clash, great mix of tunes and beats. Highly recomended. I'd rate this as their best album ever, the whole album takes you on a journey of highs and lows, ups and downs, ins and outs. Your jumping around one minute and reflective the next. Brilliant writing both lyrically and musically. Production wise is 'par exalonce'. The most important point of the album is it bears out time after time, with the enjoyment factor never deminishing. It did however leave one question...where have all the great punk bands gone....

  Hard To Beat
Review created: 09/04/08

One of the best albums I own. I originally purchased it for my teenage daughter but grew to love it myself. Green Day really grew up with this CD. I've heard this album described as a rock opera referring back principally to The Who. It does remind me of a modern day Quadrophenia. Even the lead role in both is called Jimmy.
