I don't believe you will find a more comprehensive historical portrayal of the conflict that was labelled the 'great war'. As ever with anything the BBC produces it is factual and informative. Using archive footage and news reel this series must have been monumental for its time. Worth every penny!

In this masterpiece there was the grouping of rare footage and editing to correct the defects of the footage and combine all this work together. As a work it explores in certain aspects that are usually taken for granted like civilian life and daily soldier life. I recently returned from France and I toured in the Somme area. I visited several battle sites and saw the many graves in this area.
