What can I say about this album that hasn't already been said? Well for starters I have to say that this is definately one of the best albums for summer driving. You can just put it on in the car and relax on any journey and relieve yourself of the tedium of the road.

The intricacies in the music between the soft melody of the guitars, synthesizers and vocals is something to behold. Vocally Gomez have some wonderfully unique characteristics and the almost harsh, yet strangely soothing vocals I would suggest are at their best on tracks like "Get Miles", "Tijuana Lady" and "Bubble Gum Years".

The album itself is well mixed and produced, but leaves you begging for more. This is not a bad point about the album, it just feels that when you get to the end you feel like you still want to hear more.

In a quick capsule, this album is so smooth that you should make sure that you are sat comfortably otherwise you might just fall over from being so relaxed.

  Bring It On by Gomez

One of the best albums of the late 90's, Bring It On should be on every road trip and in every cd rack. Gravelly vocals and swampy guitar riffs allow mini screenplays to form as you make that solo, 6 day drive across the Nullarbor Plain - Get Miles, Tijuana Lady, Get Myself Arrested: all beautiful to listen to as the sun rises through the blue bush. A classic of its day, it didn't win a mercury prize for nought.
Oh, and the Nullarbor gets 5 stars too!

Good CD. The guys voice is different. Everyone seems to listen to the same stuff and no one really appreciates the good stuff. Not too much that has come out recently that really blows your mind. Time to get the runs through the music you might have missed back then. People seem to be more famous when theyre dead or no longer in the business.

  Mellow and enjoyable listening.

I usually listen to Hip Hop but fancied trying out some different types of music and had Gomez recommended to me. I decided to take a chance with a new sound and have had this on rotation in my mp3 player since I bought it.

It really mellow and I enjoy the vibe of the album especially the songs 'Get myself arrested' and 'Free to run'. I don't know anything much about alternative/indie type music and so don't have any frame of reference to compare it with any other groups/artists but as I'm a hip hop head and can't stop playing this CD it's the highest recommendation that I can give.

Ebay wanted me to write this review but it was a birthday present for someone else so I'm not really the one to ask. I quite like Whippin' Piccadilly though. And that other one.
I heard Whippin' Piccadilly on the radio while I was driving to work about ten years ago and I thought: "Yeh, that's quite good." But I didn't buy it. Now though, it was my girlfriend's birthday and she'd happened to mention it so I bought it. I also got her an ipod shuffle and the paperback of Everything Is Illuminated, as she liked the film. So did I, by the way. It's set in Ukraine and I worked there in the 1990s, or just over the Dniester in Moldova. I visited a place called Soroka which has a castle overlooking the river. If I remember rightly, there were caves in the hillside on the way there (from Kishinev, or Chisinau, depending on whether you're Russian or Romanian/Moldavian) and in the caves I was told once lived monks. Soroka was known as a gypsy town. Tony Hawks mentions it in his excellent book Playing The Moldovans At Tennis.
Another book I read recently was I Heard Lenin Laugh by Martin Sixsmith. It's very good. About a guy growing up in the Soviet Union.
My girlfriend's reading it now. She likes Gomez, which is why I bought her the album. I'm more of a Ramones and Fratellis man, myself.

Arguably one of the finest bands to have been spawned from the UK, this debut album is a MUST have for anyone who knows their music! Do yourself a favour, buy a copy of this and then continue to purchase their entire back catalogue.

Ten years on and they are still going strong, long live the gomez!

Regards
Mc.Hendrix
