Goldfrapp - Supernature (+DVD) (CD 2005)

Good album with some catchy songs and interesting stuff for the alternative croud. This DVD version is worth it for the die-hard fan or collector, otherwise it's not great - there are no music videos on it. Why not?! Gimmick, perhaps.

But this music duo, who did Felt Mountain, have ended up becoming fairly commercial not just with the glamrock image, but with some of their sounds too. This aspect of the group didn't appeal to me and some of the tracks are not really that good. In fact, many people who liked Felt Mountain don't like Goldfrapp anymore. I'm rating this as four, because it is still slightly above average due to at least a few good tracks and sounds, some of which are really interesting and bizarre. There are already a few samples of these sounds knocking about on the airwaves in one place or another.
So, they are still original and are still among the groundbreaking groups that make their own sounds/music. Other mainstream bands just take what they can from these more original and often more obscure bands. Groups like this are not afraid to make a new sound that at first sounds a bit strange, but intriguing and ultimately very rewarding. I hope they keep this up and not fall completely into the commercial end of the business.
This band obviously knows it is good and hence they think that they can't do any wrong now. I guess they want to delve into all kinds of musical areas, even if it seems commercial. It is not without a lot of originality and creativity, though and that's what counts with me.

This version includes a DVD, too and this may be worth purchasing if you are a fan. Otherwise, it is a bit redundant, because the video clip of the band is a bit too short and the animation clip is pathetic. It does have a variety of audio versions to choose from for those audiophiles with really good DVD Players. Other than that, it is a bit of a rip off actually, because Pop DVD's like this should have a lot more video on them and the DVD in this case should have had a whole set of music videos for each track. So, the actual rating for the package itself would be 2/5.
You could still go for this DVD/CD version now, because it is going for a really low price on eBay for just £6.50 (Nov., '06) including P&P. I got mine for less than the shops a while ago for £10.50 on eBay.

It seems that some of the more superficial types have rated this article; they are probably glamrock lovers. I really don't like the visual aspect of glamrock as well. Some of the more recent videos from this band are not very appealing at all. So, we are not missing much here then, afterall. I'd just like to put that across and rub it in a bit more and possibly get another bad rating, i don't care.

I had imagined that it was a musicvideo so I am a bit disappointed that it is only a music dvd.
