Excellent Album - one of the best at the time and one of my favourites. Very original and beautiful music.
At least one of the members of this group came from the Bristol area and so they were originally involved in that scene in the beginning. This is their first and most original album/cd. I got this for only a few pounds (incl. p&p) on eBay and then i spent a bit more on the ECD version that has a small PC video clip of note and more importantly it has some really nice mixed versions of favourite tracks like Utopia.
For a more extensive review, please see what i have to say about the Double CD extended version, i mentioned above (a separate review from this one).

Goldfrapp. Wow. What a beautiful voice. Alison has a fantastic sound. Supernature is an excellent album, Black Cherry is even better.
Felt Mountain however is their first album and is VERY different. It is quiet, the songs are slow but for the most part gorgeous. Listen to PILOTS or UTOPIA and you will fall in love with her voice let alone the silky string arrangements.
If you like goldfrapp watch her double DVD and get lost in her amazing sound again and again. Be inspired by TWIST, TRAIN, CHRISTLIN GREEN and TIPTOE.
Can't wait for more music and DVDs.
If you like Alison Goldfrapp buy averything she has to offer and on EBAY her material can be picked up at bargain prices. But you already know that if you are reading this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  Eerily beautiful

Every track on this disc is memorable. It also doesn't sound like anything else: while it's pretty certain that you'll enjoy this if you like Portishead, for instance, it's in no way derivative. Gregory's soundscapes seem much wider than the short spaces of time they inhabit, and Goldfrapp's vocals infuse everything with beauty and melancholy. Don't hesitate.

A superb album from Goldfrapps roots
Review created: 30/01/09

Likely one of my favourite albums of all time - Felt Mountain manages to be both soothing and yet oddly eerie at the same time. An excellently layered blend of electronica and vocal come together to produce a rich musical environment.

Highlights for me include:

-Lonely Head : Surely one most people have heard at some point, an eerie calm and serene piece with haunting vocals from Alison, and a genuine classic track that will stand the test of time.

-Human : Almost like a tango in rythym, it gets the feet tapping, yet theres a dark almost seedy undertone to the song, like sitting in a moscow strip bar peering at girls through a thick cloud of smoke. Another great track

-Pilots (watching stars) - Possibly my favourite on this disc, is a touching, soft and emotionally contained song, that sends shivers down my spine every time i listen to it.

From this point on, the album maintains a consistent quality, if not quite up to the standard of the first four tracks. However in my opinion, these first tracks are worth the album alone.

One to own for sure, and a great addition to anyones collection.

Not as good as I was anticipating, but still GOOD!!!
Review created: 10/01/08

Had expected more than I got experiance wise, but that was down to huge expectations rather than low quality.

8.5 out of ten, rather than 10/10 as I had hoped...., - but that was unfair in my pre purchase hopes, rather than musical highs. (Sigh)

Still a fine buy, & I would buy again if suffering from partial memory loss, if yer sees what I mean...

Off to bed in a gin stupor(?)

R.

Pip Pipo.
