This was a good film. Very feel good and predictable but would definitely brighten up a rainy Sunday!
The premise of the film is simple really poor boy with a talent who can't make the most of it due to lack of funds and family duties.
He defies the odds though and gets a trial at Newcastle United (which of course happens everyday)
It does make some interesting observations and shows how easily some naive boys could be corrupted with all that being a well known and well paid footballer has to offer.

I bought this film for my football mad sons after reading a review about it in a magazine. My sons have now watched it many times, and obviously think its a great film! Its set around Newcastle United & the boys enjoyed spotting some of their favourite stars in their cameo roles. All in all well worth watching for football fans of all ages!

Despite being two of the world’s biggest forms of mass entertainment, footy and film have always struggled to gel. Goal!, though, runs its little legs off trying to make the opposites attract – hauling you into a Rocky-lite story and capturing the faded dreams of lager swilling, Sky Sports-watching males across the land.

Danny Cannon’s tale of LA-based immigrant Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) being plucked from the streets to join Newcastle United is as predictable as the outcome of an England penalty shootout. But it’s not nearly as disappointing, with cameos from the game’s leading lights (the highlight being a spectacularly wooden turn by David Beckham) and doctored footage of actual Premiership games adding a previously unseen level of authenticity. Where Goal! fouls points, however, is in ‘Santy’s’ bullet-fast rise from struggling rookie to Magpie saviour – all within the final three games of the season.

On paper the extras may look impressive, but they lack top-class players. The oddly titled Behind The Pitch is a revealing Making Of, but The Beautiful Game quickly grates as various Yanks extol the virtues of football (with no mention of the ‘S’ word, thankfully...). The Cannon-led commentary is workmanlike, while the two FIFA-related extras should have been left on the bench. Star performer? The Goal! II trailer, where Munez mixes it with the Galactico-ranked Real Madrid. Do we smell more dazzling thesp-work from Becks?

Good film a must see for football fans
Review created: 30/03/09

My son wanted to see the film because he read Goal 1 and 2. He really enjoyed the film, and liked the film better than the book, as the characters were brought to life. He enjoyed the football matches in the film, but was disappointed that there was not more matches. He's looking forward to watching Goal 2.

  ITS A GOALLLLLLL!!!!!!
Review created: 23/03/09

What a fantastic movie.
This film mixes drama with real live premiership action soccer, and it does so very well indeed.
Part one of a trilogy, it definetly leaves you wanting more.
It says on the box "the best football film ever made" and I would definetly agree with that statement.
Fabulous stuff.
IF YOU LIKE FOOTBALL YOU WILL LOVE THIS
5/5

Realistic Football Action plus good story - WOW
Review created: 30/01/08

We watched this as a family at the weekend having it bought it in the sales for £2.99 and WOW what a good watch.
The acting, although from relatively unknowns is superb other than Anna Friel's somewhat dodgey and intermittant Newcastle accent!
The football action is fantastic and the use of actual stadiums and loads of guest appearances from Newcastle and Liverpool players plus a speaking part from THE David Beckham is very impressive.
This is no Green Street or Football Factory for you wannabe hooligans but a good football fairytale...... need to get Goal II now!

A must see film for all
Review created: 13/05/07
by:

For me i think that this as got a very good story line, a little far fetched maybe but if we made films that were real life all the time then it would get somewhat boring.

Much better than the 2nd for me, Goal is a highly regarded, well written and acted movie that will warm the heart of any football fanatic.

Full of twists, turns and surprises along the way, goal is a very good film that you can watch over and over without tiring from its beauty.
