The Gift (DVD 2001)

I love this film. Have watched over and over again. Keep seeing things I missed before. Good to see Reeves playing a bad guy for once and he does it so well. Kate utterly brilliant. If you like edge of your seat thrillers then this is a must.

Originally posted around as an intense psychological sexy suspense thriller (sounds good don’t it). I thought I was in for a treat, as I hadn’t seen one of those for a while!

The poster looked promising, but was all I had to go on, other than my curiosity. Within the first thirty minutes I realised I’d been had.

I had to adapt my taste to accept something unglamorous, dull, dreary and dark (might as well add dismal too). I know that it is possible to make movies that have tense, nail biting supernatural elements and still have visually stunning images of some kind. This one got away somehow.

Even the plot was somewhat predictable as it turned out to be not much more than a murder mystery whodunit with a ‘try’ to scare you senseless feels. It did get better though with a thought provoking ending.

My main criticism centres on the fact that the location and state culture where this story was set is somewhere we can’t really relate to anyway, (just as well really).

It’s another American style state, court cop drama not dissimilar to your average TV movie.

This is a fantastic film. Its a must for someone who likes a psychic chiller.
Its about a lady who has the gift to see the past and the future. She is living in a small town, which has split views on the readings she gives.
There is a woman who goes missing and cate blanchetts charactor has visions of what has happened to her, she is then interviewed by the police to try and aid the search of the woman.
All I can say is watch it, it has a twist at the end and its a heart warming story

If you haven't seen this film, then you must. The cast were chosen so well. Cate Blanchett, Keanu Reeves, Hillary Swank to name a few. The film is faultless, each character is believable and in the setting of their day to day lives they sit perfectly. Their performances and the story make the film take your full attention as the events in all their lives unfold surrounding the main plot.

Cate Blanchett plays the part of Annie so beautifully, full of truly heart felt moments. I won't spoil it for you by giving any of it away. The film is deep and it will trigger something in you and you may well shed a tear or two. But this is not a cheap 'chick flick' by any stretch of the imgaination.

Put time aside one evening to watch this film, you won't regret it and you will want to watch it again and lend it to your friends.

i purchased this dvd because the right up said it was on par with Sixth Sense which I thought was a terrific film had me guessing until about 3 minutes to the end of the film....BUT

Nothing like sixth sense, got a bit bored in fact didn't really have much of a story and clairvoyancy was just in passing really. And guessed the plot within 10 mins of the start!

The deliverey was very fast and the product was just like as if i had bought in the shop, i enjoy films and if i see one i like it is nice to have it so when i facey a girley night in and a film to whatch i always have one.I would recomened buying on ebay as it was half the price i would of paid in the shop.

This film shows the viewer that in some places, women are still condidered 2nd class. The special gift this woman holds is shown to be nothing more then a joke to the men of the town. But when she convicts the wrong and tries to make it right. She find herself in a bit of a position.

IT WAS A GOOD STORY WITH A GOOD CAST OF ACTORS, SO I ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH.I BOUGHT IT FIRSTLT FOR THE STORY AND SECONDLY FOR THE COST.

cate blanchett is one of those rare actress's who can make a bad film good just by lighting up the scenes she's in, but in this film she just adds to the overall affect of a brilliant film with a brilliant cast, giovanni ribisi being as good as ever

i brought the gift because its a good film. i like horror movies and this film is a little scary. theres abit of everything really. scary scenes. and some happy scenes. i like the charactors in this movie. a great movie to watch, would reccomend people to buy it!!!!!!!!.

The gift is an edge of your seat thriller. Keanu Reeves plays a bad guy really well seeing as in real life e is a shy and retiring sort of chappy. It keeps you guessing all the way threw te film. Katie Holmes plays an excellent slut! Something i reckon Tom Cruise wont be very pleased about. All in all this is a good watch, for both men and women. Plenty of eye candy to please bot sexes.

This is a supernatural whodunnit. I liked this film because I didn't find it predictable - there were a good number of characters who were equally likely to have been the 'perps.' A good yarn..

My wife saw the film on sky, and she loved it so much i bought it for her.

Splendid movie with Cate Blanchette about a widowed psychic struggling in a small town, which becomes subject to a killer, and the law enforcement agencies turn to her for assistance.

A film that truly grips the viewer every minute.
The main character of the fortune teller suits the detached and somewhat cold acting talents of Cate Blanchett and this has to be the first film I've seen where I've actually thought that Keanue Reeves might be more than just a pretty face !
Darkly atmospheric with its bayou setting, the characters all struggle with hidden secrets. The film has an appealing, haunting quality to its presentation and a string of characters that don't show us much of themselves but make us want more.
Recommended !

Bought this as I tend to like any Keanu Reeves films, and hadn't seen this. Annabelle Wilson (Cate Blanchett)is left widdowed and uses her clairvoyant gift to support herself and her children by doing readings for the locals. A womanising wife beater(Keanu Reeves)takes issue when she reads for his wife, and starts a campaign of terror against her. Then local girl Jessica King (Katie Holmes) disappears, and Annabelle is asked to use her powers to help find her.
As it was only because Keanu Reeves was in this that I bought it, I liked seeing him play a character that was so different from his I'm a Bad guy, but nice really roles. There are lots of well known cast names in this and the film on the whole kept me watching until the end, but it was fairly obvious from the beginning though that all was not as it seemed.

a good interesting film had me transfix to the story,this one type of film l like,l also like true stories as well.

This is a really good film as it is like no other and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The story line is really original and is well worth a watch if you love supence thrillers.

I had seen this film on rental and liked it so I had a look on ebay to purchase it. I was a bit dubious because I don't normally buy dvds this way as the risk of getting a copy is quite high. However, I was extremely pleased with this genuine copy. The dvd was in excellent condition as was the case and the picture quality.

My sister passed away six weeks before Christmas, I visited a church where a medium was present and my sister came through the medium, someone lent me the book `The Gift` and I read the book, which inspired me to buy the dvd, but I have not seen the picture as yet.
