Fantastic Yoga DVD!

I've only ever done watched one yoga DVD before and it will remain nameless but it was very boring and I didn't feel any benefit from it either during or after the session.
The Geri is completely different to that. The DVD begins with an introduction from Geri & then from Kate. Kate explains what yoga is and how it's used. She also goes through the breathing techniques used in yoga. This was all very simple to do & useful to know.
The DVD uses Hatha yoga. As well as Geri and Kate (the expert), there's also Nate who shows you simpler versions of the yoga poses for anyone who can't do the poses Geri & Kate do. This was fantastic as it means literally all levels can do the Geri Yoga DVD.
Being new to the world of yoga I found the 1st section absolutely fantastic. The pace was brilliant. As with any yoga DVD though it was a little bit hard to concentrate on the pose, my breathing AND watch the DVD at the same time.
In the 2nd part, Kate tended to get a little bit carried away & went a bit too fast for me, so I found myself having to pause the DVD until I was ready to move into the next pose.
The poses were relatively easy to get into, but slightly challenging to hold. I could definitely see how effective the yoga DVD would be over long term use.
The routines did become a little bit easier as the DVD progressed and I got into the swing of things. I built up a sweat & I got more out of breath as the DVD moved on (which surprised me as I thought that was reserved for aerobic exercises!) but I wasn't as out of breath as I would have been if I'd been running etc.
Kate does tend to forget that some people are new to yoga & are doing the DVD for the 1st time. She instructs you quite quickly & at one point was just saying 'left leg' which was useless to me as it just sounded like a statement rather than an instruction. It would have been better if she had said 'left leg forward' or 'left leg back' so I knew EXACTLY what I was supposed to do with my left leg! I also found that throughout one of the routines I managed to travel from the front of my mat to the back of it...and everyone on the DVD were still at the front of theirs (and not even breaking a sweat! Grrrrr!)
A lot of my joints were making quite satisfying 'popping' noises as the tension was released from them. It sounded like bubble wrap but I felt like I was really gaining the benefits from the session.
Geri helps you out throughout the DVD by giving you tips e.g. 'your hands don't have to be touching the floor in this position'.
Geri also made the session fun by making witty comments & pulling tongues at the camera etc. It almost felt like I was doing the session with a friend, so it was more relaxing & fun to do.
When you reach the point where Kate says 'your heart rate has quickened', she wasn't kidding. My heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest!
Both Geri and Kate give you tips just at the EXACT point where you need them. At one point I really needed to bend my knee, just as Kate said it was ok to do that if you needed to!
All in all this is a fantastic DVD. If you haven't got an hour to complete it, you could just do 1 or 2 of the 4 sections. I would seriously consider buying a yoga mat if you don't already have one as holding the poses is one thing but trying to stop your feet slipping on the floor whilst trying to maintain the poses makes it that bit harder!
I could feel the benefits immediately and can't wait to do it again! Highly recommended.
