Full Metal Jacket (DVD 2001)

Full Metal Jacket is a film in two halves. The first half shows a rigorous training camp, the second half is a realistic war movie. The drill sergeant in the training camp is quite a character and worth the price of the movie alone. Either half of the movie by itself is great. Put them together and you have one hell of a movie. Highly recommended.

The best part of the film is the training in the beggining very strong. altough the rest of the film is awesome and keeps you gripped till the end . Must see

Everyong loves the infamous Boot Camp scene, that's why I got this. The Vietnam story is still good, and gives you an idea on some of the tactics used back then and now. A must buy for fellow Devildogs! OOORRRAAAHHH!

"Full Metal Jacket" is Director/Producer/Co-Writer Stanley Kubrick's meditation on the Vietnam War.

Abit of comedy thrown in also.

Decided to buy this movie as I love Vietnam films such as Platoon and Hamburger Hill and this movie is up there with Platoon in my eyes. Stanley Kubrick directed Full Metal Jacket in 1987 and the film has an 18 cert. Film last approx 112 mins. Has a great soundtrack.

The movie is filmed in 2 segments or parts. First part is set in the harsh training camp preparing the men to kill and fight under ruthless Sgt Hartman and the second part is about one of the men, Joker, following the war for Stars and Stripes, a reporter.

The movie shows us how the recruits are first hardened up to become killing machines and the harshness of training and the mental and physical effects it has on people. Second part is based in Vietnam, near Hue, a large empty City full of snipers where the men have to try and claim back and they are ambushed and attacked and bombed many times. Joker all the time trying to report the situation and stay alive and stay sane. A very emotional and realistic and touching film. Full of action and feeling and shock and also humour here and there. It kept me gripped from start to finish and I have watched it now several times.

Mathew Modine is fantastic as Joker. If you are into Vietnam films, you must own this. 10 out of 10.

Joker (Matthew Modine), Animal Mother (Adam Baldwin), Gomer (Vincent D'Onofrio),Eightball (Dorian Harewood), Cowboy (Arliss Howard) and more - are all plunged into a bot-camp hell pitbullled by leather lung Drill Instructor (Lee Ermey) who views the would be devil dogs as grunts,maggots or something less.

The action is savage, the story unsparing, the dialogue spiked with scathing humour. Full Metal Jacket from its rigors of basic training to its nightmare of combat in Hue City, scores a cinematic direct hit.

This is the best film i have ever seen. Watch it you will love it. Also if you do enjoy this film try Jarhead, or saving private ryan!! all great movies!

i bought it for my partner, after hunting high and low for it. he loves this film and can recite it almost word for word. i'm not so keen (apart from the gorgeous guys in it). it's a war film following the men through various situations that they HAVE to go through,with an evil drill instructor (very nasty man). definately one for the lads.

Now this is a classic and you will never be able to sit down with your friends and talk movies without having seen this one.
So come on buy it, although I am not promising you will make new friends just because you watched this

If you have never seen Stanely Kubrick's 'Full Metal Jacket', I highly recommend it to you. The highlight for me is the first section set in boot camp for the United States Marine Corps, dramatically conveying the turmoil in which these famous warriors are created. Not only is it poignant, but also very interesting and fairly accurate in its depictions. (The Drill Instructor is also the epitomy of the 'lean and mean' devil dogs)
As a war film, 'Full Metal Jacket' is also good and fairly moving and illuminating at times, but did not strike me as hard as the basic training part. Note that I am judging it by how good I thought the boot camp part was; its great but I didn't feel Kubrick quite kept up the pase; hence 4/5.

You would, however, be ill-advised to miss this classic Vietnam/Marine Corps film.

brilliant film, didnt think id like it thought it was gonna be a mans kinda film with a super amount of action but i found it brilliant watched it 3 times now and still not bored of it. one to watch definatly!!!!

What i like about FULL METAL JACKET is rawness of it and they it shows the very closeness to the vietnam war and what they went through in training and in battle ,just love the drill sargent.
again i give it +AAA

Great film only war film i know which shows military training which is the best bit of the film. Action is good so is the soundtrack 60 music.

It is a master piece of military film the unpopular war in Vietnam the story of conscripts from training through to in some cases death well put together
compulsive viewing. 10 out of 10.

Decided to buy this DVD because hubbie and I started watching the film on TV and fell asleep before the end ! Haven't had time to watch the DVD yet but looking forward to it with a nice glass of wine !

Brilliant DVD, Im joining the army and was told to watch this by my fella so i shall now know what it would have been like back then...Funny as DVD apparently so im sure i will get a lot of joy from it. Many thanks.

its the best film ive seen since ( bridge on the river kwai and it has its funny moments i just like the fact its army based and the actors are great along with the story live love it .

I'd been reading about the film that morning and decided to try ebay for a bargain. I couldn't have wished for faster service and the DVD I received was an excellent entertaining and at times harrowing film. Quality. Exactly as described in the newspaper that day

The first chapter is the intense training at boot camp, with the brilliantly sadistic and very funny R.Lee. Ermy as the drill sargent.
The second chapter is the war in the concrete jungles of vietnam, it's very shocking and very real (as far as i know atleast).
both chapters of the film compliment each other, but for me the boot camp chapter is the best, because of R.Lee. Ermy's drill sargent.
His abuse and cutting remarks are now a thing of legend.
the second chapter stands well because of the shocking sniper sequence.
This is one of the best vietnam war films ever made, possibly only bettered by Platoon.

The trainning at the beginning is funny and the prostitue too!
I have seen this before years ago but wanted to own the DVD as it's worth watching over again.

This movie has always been a favourite of mine since its release, it doesn't just deal with the trauma of war and what it does to nations, it goes deeper and shows the affects on individuals too.
