After much research it was evident that the Fuji S6500fd was by far the most superior camera within my budget, every review was glowing and in all honesty it did not disappoint.

Classed as a mid range on the spectrum it is just above a compact and just below a DLSR, the perfect "bridge camera" (between the two). The lens is rather special and is seen on no other Fuji model (to date) with a 10.7x optical and a focal range of 28-300mm, it would be a serious challenge to find another bridge camera with a greater zoom.

It has a great macro facility but not the best I’ve ever seen, what surprises me the most about this camera is the amount of features (way too many too list) and the battery life is also impressive from AA’s (providing you get the good quality rechargeable), really does economise the power very efficiently.

I would like to emphasise the user friendliness of this camera, if you are deadly serious about getting into photography but not willing to take the immediate leap to digital SLR – then this is the camera for you. I currently have two pictures either side of my fireplace, both have been framed, both have been hung with pride – and both have been taken with a 6500FD.

The good points:-

It supports RAW image, manual twist barrel giving the rare manual control, 6.0 MegaPixels Super CCD HR (this would be a bad point if they hadn’t of upgraded the CCD sensor from the previous model). Face detection (that’s what the FD stands for) its hardware based and proves to be very useful. It has high ISO sensitivity and of course records movies.

Now for the bad points:-

Non-interchangeable lens (but that would make it a DLSR), has a fixed LCD and I prefer a tilt one to enable angled shots, the biggest complaint that I can make is that the camera isn’t made out of metal however if it was then the retail price would have been more and it may not have ever been one of our greatest sellers.

I think to summarise a camera like this is a rarity, with this amount of professionalism and the specification it boasts, it really did up the stakes for it’s competitors and it still has no serious challenges (the closest being it’s bigger brothers the S9500 & S9600).

Bottom line is the price – too good a deal to turn down.

Super Power Photography 2009

This is a seriously good camera as a second hand bargain, the features are as good as a much more expensive Digital SLR and the 7 mega pixels are more than good enough for everyday use and 10.7 optical zoom with a digital doubling function give this camera some serious focal length.
The pro and semi pro camera users are selling these as they upgrade to higher resolution cameras, so if was good enough for them in the first place it is good enough for me, especially as this cost less than half its retail price and the same as a reasonable compact digital camera.

Recommended by me to all bargain hunters.

Richard.

I've had this camera over two years now and I'm still amazed how good it is.
The zoom range may look a little restricted compared with the 12x and 18x that are available from other manufacturers but they're usually extra long and ignore the wide-angle end. If like me you like your wide-angle shots this is for you with a 28mm (35mm camera equivalent) zooming out to a very useful 300mm equivalent.
The manual zoom is much more controllable and quicker to use than a power zoom and the autofocus is really quick. The Fuji sensor is widely aknowledged as being superior to others in this type of camera.
I personally don't have a use for RAW but if you have then this camera gives it to you, and at 12 megapixels - check it out the raw images are 4048x3036=12 megapixels (Jpegs are sized down to 2848x2136 = 6mp). This is because the Super CCD has two sets of sensors, large sensitive ones for shadows and smaller less sensitive ones for highlights. 6.3 million of each, averaged out for jpegs or you get them all in a RAW file and the free S7Raw software does the necessary conversion to tif or jpg.
If you need off-camera flash, or a cable-release socket or a swivelling viewing screen then spend a bit more and get the S9600 but this has everything you really need. The face detection works well and it has so many other useful features such as auto bracketing, zone focus (you select the part of the picture it focuses on) and others that I haven't even got round to using yet.
You needn't feel overshadowed by the SLR brigade because it looks just like an SLR (but at a third the price) and you can use all the filters and lens attachments like an SLR. Yes the SLR viewfinder is clearer than the 6500's electronic viewfinder but £300 better -I don't think so. And do you really want to change lenses all the time? (most SLRs only have a 3x zoom as standard so you'll need to buy a longer zoom as well).
My only criticism is that they should have made the 6500 a bit smaller and lighter but having said that it is brilliantly ergonomically designed, fits snugly in your hand and all the buttons fall neatly to hand - you rapidly feel at one with it.

The Fujfilm digital SLR camera is one of the best photography equipment i have ever bought you can take fantastic pictures with a camera that don't burn a whole in the pocket.
they are quite fiddly to get the focus going with the optical zoom but u will get the hang of it. photography at night ? well the fujifilm 6500 is the perfect piece of equipment with the intensity flash and focus the camera does record but only for daylight or night time with a background lighting.

Sadly i Sold My camera Because I Wanted a Change Well I haven't Bought Another 1 Yet I Sold My Camera On eBay And It Went For A Good Price...
so if you are looking to purchase a good camera why not buy the fujifilm S6500fd its will save u a lot of money and u will get what you paid for.

This camera has a wide range of settings and is very easy to use.
One fault is you get a much better picture than that which you see in the viewfinder or the LCD display. The printing software supplied with the camera is not as good as that supplied with Epson photo printer.

It was a toss up between an S6500 or an S9500 but the S6500 was new and unused and a good price and i'm not dissapointed with it,the lcd screens a good size and very sharp and 6meg gives really nice results,i miss not having a button to pop up the flash and aperture control in manual mode is a bit arkward so if that is what you want go for a S95/9600 as there is a control knob/button on them.Otherwise the S6500 is a splendid piece of kit and it's very hard to realise you are not holding an SLR,another really good point is the manual zoom ring on the lens it's so much more accurate and easier to use than those silly little buttons you get on other cameras.

Liked the "proper" camera shape and feel. 28 to 300 lens controlled by twist ring. Face definition works well and quickly. Price new, was reasonable, but price second hand was tremendous because camera was as new.

  Brilliant camera

This is my first fully manual camera, after using the f20 (basically a point and shoot which has the same sensor as this camera)

At first it felt a bit bulky and heavy, but you do getu sed to it and the camera itself is brilliant, complete manual control and up to 30sec exposure, some beautiful shots taken with this and the zoom is fantastic!
Auto mode tends to pick up a bit too much noise, but using any of the scene modes corrects this fine. And the manual controll is the best. considering its not an SLR it acts completely like one.

Would recomend to anyone wanting more from the camera with the ease of point and shoot, and also the full control of manual for the keen photographers.

(battery life has been brilliant on 2700mah rechargeable batteries, but standard AA's are eaten up in no time at all)

As an amateur photographer I found this camera to be a good starting place. Despite being a slightly older model the 6.3mpixel was more than adequate. The quality of the images is excellent and the range of functions allow me to learn how to use a modern SLR.

The product is absolutely perfect for amateurs mainly or professionals second camera. Manual zoom 10x(!), picture stabilisator, fast ready, 400 photo with 1 set of batt., good flash, face detection, 6 Mp. Many useful features, big and sharp LCD, simple and clever menu, huge lens, intelligent operation. Easy to make good pictures, easy and fast to share theese. Video is very good and you can use the zoom while you make it. In manual focus mode the focus ring is professional help to make photos. It is working with nearly empty batteries well, thanks for the four batteries version. The bilt quality is very well. The value is good for this price, incredible good. If you want to buy this machine, you have to buy 1 pc XD memory card, 1 or 2 Gb capacity. Useful parts 4 rechargable batteries, AA size min. 2500 mAh. plus charger. I recoomend for everybody very much. Camera bag, big breath and start! Have a good shooting!

  A very competent camera!
Review created: 05/08/09(updated 23/10/09)

This camera performs well- especially in raw mode- the image quality it produces can be very good, if you take care, and process the images on your computer properly- particularly with raw. The 28mm wide angle capability is great for landscapes, and the manual zoom ring on the lens is a real bonus, and a joy to use.
It is well made, and feels very comfortable to use.

The fuji s6500fd is well worth the money!

Love the look and feel of this camera. I will be using it to take crisp wide angle shots of property interiors and have been advised that this camera is best for this type of requirment, without have to spend a stack.
