The S5500 is about as close to a digital SLR as you can get while still retaining the ease of use that you get with a point & shoot camera. I read loads of reviews before making my purchase and was not dissappointed. It feels very well built, the controls are very very easy to use and the 10x zoom is awesome. I captured loads of motorsport pics and airshow pics both using auto modes and playing around with shutter/aperture priority modes, you gan get stunning photos with ease and reviewing them with the large display means you can pick your best ones to print. This is small enough to carry everywhere all the time, seems very robust and fits well in the hand, buy one you will like it.

  Electronic viewfinder issue

Excellent camera, there is only one fly in the ointment and that is the Electronic view finder which is prevalent in digital cameras of this price, do not let this put you off though, you do get used to it. My previous cameras were film and were of course TTL view finders which made it easy to follow the action whereas Electronic view finders cannot.

Love - it's abitity to do really clear close up pictures, it's ability to catch a moving subject like crashing waves without it looking a blurry mess!
Hate - juicy on batteries.

As soon as i unpacked the camera and turned it on i realised one thing. The supplied 16mb card is no where near enough storage - only allowing 8 pictures on the highest resolution setting - this is minor though as memory is available so cheap these days.

The camera is laid out in a very easy to use way and you dont need to ingest the entire instruction book before you can take a photo, it is just a matter of turn it on, point and shoot.

Then of course you have all the advance features and excellent flash that you can use when you get a little more serious.

Overall a great, easy to use camera that produces excellent results - even for a 4MP camera.

Highly Recommended Camera that can be found for a bargain price.

  Fuji FinePix S5500 Digital Camera
Review created: 29/06/08

Ideal range of model of camera if you, or in my case the wife, want to make a step up from holiday snaps on your compact to a level below D-SLR photography but dont want to shell out many £/$'s on a high end D-SLR before knowing if your upgrade is a 'flash in the pan'(no pun intended) or an enjoyable long term hobby.
As with a standard compact the camera has automatic features, however you can turn these off, as my wife has, and start playing with exposure settings etc. You can also take pictures in RAW (not an acronym) mode which avoids all the cameras internal wizzardy on the picture allowing you to do all that and more via photo editing software like Photoshop.
On a personal note, the only bad thing is the fact that my wife likes it so much that the next more expensive upgrade is looming!

  Easy digital camera.

I'm not that good a photographer but I find I take better pictures with a camera with a viewfinder than one with just an L.C.D. I read a few reviews on different cameras and decided that the Fuji Finepix s5500 was the one for me and it was one of my better decisions!
This camera does everything you could want and more. The menu is easy to navigate and the camera is extremely user friendly. It doesn't have huge megapixels ( 4.0 ) but the other features more than make up for this.
It is simple to switch between the viewfinder and the LCD so reviewing your photos is easy. It is easy for a beginner to use or, for the more experienced ,some of the features make it mmore like a 35mm SLR.
I love this camera and for the price I paid I would recommend it to anyone upgrading from a basic point and shoot model.

Yes its only a 4MP camera, but it does take some amazing photos, and being a typical fuji it has amazing colours as well. I am a pro photographer, and I use this to take photos of my kids and general "round the house" stuff, its ideal when I don't want the hassle of taking a DSLR out with me.

5/5

  Fuji FinePix S5500 Digital Camera
Review created: 23/05/08

It's really a very nice little camera indeed. It's halfway between a basic digital camera and the complexity of a full-blown SLR.

Unless you like gadgets for their own sake, it has everything an amateur user will ever need. It is a very capable little camera. It takes a very good picture. It handles a wide variety of light conditions. It has a very useful zoom, and is packed with other useful features. For instance, it will take single shots, groups of three shots in quick succession, or shoot continuously; very useful when photographing a moving subject. The macro facility for closeups is useful too.

Best of all, it will adjust all its settings automatically if you like, making it a very useable "point and shoot" device, while you come to terms with the instructions manual, which is comprehensive, and the wide variety of settings which you can adjust manually.

It is quite light, small and neat, and comes easily and comfortably to the hand. It is easy to pack and to carry. Maybe it's not quite pocket sized, but it's not far off. (It makes my old Fuji film SLR seem very big and clunky!) I'm extremely pleased with it; and at eBay prices, it is a real bargain. You really do get a lot for not very much money.

But while the camera is very nice indeed, do watch out for the software. I ended up having to re-install my operating system after my one and only attempt to install the Fuji CD. The install procedure is not intuitive, there is an infuriating "information" window which persistently comes up and blocks vital items you really need to see (no obvious way of removing it, either), and after I'd finished the install, my computer would not reboot at all. So first I ended up in the BIOS, telling my computer to reboot from the CD (lucky I'd got a legit copy of the OS with code numbers and all!), then trying to use the "repair OS" option (it wouldn't), then finally having to do a full re-install, which of course then meant a lovely evening setting up all the drivers again, and re-installing all my other software; everything from word-processor to browser to design tools to security and cleanup software. GRRRRR!

Fuji tell you not to attempt to download photos from the camera before you've installed their software. Actually you can. The computer treats the camera as a USB Mass device, and you can copy pictures over using Windows Explorer, which is what I am doing now. The best use for the Fuji CD would seem to be as a frisbee, or maybe as a target for an airgun, clay pigeon style.

NOT DSLR (although a great camera)
Review created: 03/04/08

Just logging in to correct the information - even though the fuji finepix s5500 is a wonderful camera, and the best buy in its range, it is NOT a digital SLR (single-lens reflex) camera. Perfect for non-professionals, or for professionals at leasure.

Zoom in on the Fuji FinePix S5500
Review created: 26/02/08
by:

I decided I wanted a digital camera that looked and felt more like an SLR but didn't want to pay the earth, couldn't afford to pay the earth! I already have a Fuji compact and have had excellent results from that so I knew Fuji was a name I could rely on. A friend told me that as long as the camera had a high digital zoom, e.g. x 10 or x 12, then I didn't really need a digital SLR. I was lucky enough to win a Fuji FinePix S5500, which didn't cost me the earth, and which has proved to be an excellent camera which takes really crisp prints, even with a selective enlargement. Now I can snap away happily, trying to be creative, then delete the duds, whereas with my film SLR I'd have to fork out to have a whole film processed and be lucky to get a couple of decent shots.

How to get an iPhone, Wii, PS3 or 360 for nothing!

The Free iPhone Guide

To get yourself a free iPhone all you have to do is follow the 3 easy steps:

Step 1 : Sign up for a free iPhone
Sign up at the link below to get your free iPhone. We recommend this free iPhone site because it's been TRIED and TESTED to work.

http://kudosnetwork.co.uk/?ref=174 (copy and paste into browser)

You can choose other prizes like free consoles from this site too! Make sure you use a real email address. Use your real details when you sign up so that the company knows where to send your iPhone! Remember that they have been proven legitimate, so will send you your free iPhone if you do everything legitimately!

Step 2 : Try an advertiser's offer
Basically all you need to do in this step is complete one of the offers, this is where the freebie site make their money, if you complete an offer then the freebie site will recieve commission for it. So if you complete Coral which will only cost you £5 to complete, the freebie site gets £25 from Coral. The two best offers are Lovefilm Free DVD rental (rent two DVD's, keep them for about 2 days, send them back and then cancel the trial) and Coral (bet £5 on a sport). I would reccommend you do Coral as it credits in an hour and is really simple to do, Lovefilm however can become complicated and takes up to 2 weeks to credit! You can also try one of the other offers, most are gambling offers. Don't skip this step! You must complete this step to get your free iPhone!

Step 3 : Refer some friends
This part is a lot easier than it seems, especially now with free iPhone sites getting so popular. There's lots of people online who want a free iPhone too, so start referring them! You only need to get a few signups before you'll be finished. You can ask your friends or your online buddies. I already got a free PS3, Wii, and XBOX Elite without even having to ask my friends for help - there's lots of people online who want a free iPhone like you! One of the easiest ways to get a referral is to do a favour for a friend and ask them to sign up in return. That way, you both can get a free iPhone!

Basic rules
Don't break these rules! This is the only reason that you won't get your free iPhone, so make sure you follow these rules!

- One account per household - don't use a public computer to sign up!
- Use real information - this is a proven legitimate site and they will not give out your information.
- Only complete each offer once! You cannot complete the same offer again, even for different freebies.
- Don't try to cheat the system. This site has been proven legitimate, and they will catch you if you try to cheat. If you do everything legitimately, by following this guide, you will get a free iPhone!

Thats all, just follow my guide and you will have your free iPhone in no time.

Thank you.

I bought one of these cameras about 5 years ago after seeing a friend's, and was absolutely amazed at the quality results achieved especially when compared to my old £600 Canon SLR with massive heavy lens which is now festering in a cupboard. My best results have been using the zoom at full whilst on safari in multi exposure mode......you just roughly point it at a lion walking through the bush - press the button in short bursts, (as it saves just the last 3 exposures when you take your finger off), and then sort through and delete at leisure. I've now have a stunning collection of shots taken from this camera. It is extremely light, easy to use, and the batteries last ages.

I am however, gutted that on the last holiday in Kenya it got drenched in a tropical downpour and refused to work. So, at the price they are, I just binned it and am now looking for another - although I see the newer ones take up to 9 megapixels, I still don't think there is anything inferior with this 4 megapixel camera - you can print them as clear as a bell, and I've printed out at A4 size. If you are thinking of getting one of these - do it. You won't be disappointed.

Do not be put off by this cameras lack of megapixels . Even at full stretch with its 10x optical zoom the picture quality is beautiful .
Its a very light camera thats simple to use , no fuss and comfortable in the hand.
If you like the feel of a "proper" camera but are not ready for the expense (or complications) of a multiple lensed , professional piece of kit then I highly recommend this one to you .

Previously had a Fuji M603, good pictures and controls and easy to use but then bought Fuji SLR and totally different,a lot better.
Pictures much clearer and when cropping, the end result is brilliant. Professional school photographs came second with pictures taken with S5500. Would recommend and next purchase will be only to upgrade on this model of camera.

I've had this camera for about two years now and it's never let me down. The controls are very easy to master and it takes very good pictures on fully auto. With rechargable battries it low on power consumption even while using zoom to the max. If you find your using lots of batteries just turn the screen off for taking your photos and just use it for viewing what you've taken. The only down side I've found is when taking video you can't use the zoom. You have to set it before taking the video and stop and restart to zoom in. Highly recommended!

I,ve been a bit of an amature photographer for about 20 years now & allways sworn by 35mm.However due to the ease with which one can copy, move, edit & share digital images i thought it was about time i tried digital, wow why didnt i do this 3 years ago?I,ve taken more pictures in the last month than i have in years! And it simply does,nt matter if i need to take 20 shots to get the one i like,i simply delete the unwanted ones & carry on,no waiting,no prossesing costs,no big let-down when you realise a whole film has been wasted on rubbish pictures, great!
The camera is simply great to use,not so keen on the fully auto modes{allthough still nice pics}but it gives exellent results on shutter or apature priority modes. All the features are easy to find and put in to practice, giving all round confidence in your picture taking.Had it about a month now & i have mastered the basics & am now enjoying experimenting with some of the more advanced features. It is fairly greedy on batteries & an investment in a charger & re-chargeable batteries is a must. All in all a great camera & i can,t see myself going back to 35mm ever again!

my first semi-proffesional camera, its a wonderfull piece of kit the 10x zoom is great for capturing subjects that dont like to be photographed, the burst mode is phenominal, and auto exposure bracketing make this camera compete with the best, lots of other lenses are available right here on ebay too! a must for people wanting to step up from a normal point ad shoot
