Album Notes This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Joel & Benji Madden are both members of the group Good Charlotte.N.E.R.D.: Pharrell, Chad, Shay.Additional personnel includes: Joel Madden, Benji Madden (vocals); Lenny Kravitz, Andrew Coleman (guitar); Ahmir "uestlove" Thompson (drums).Recorded at Hovercraft Recording Studios, Virginia Beach, Virginia and The Record Plant, Los Angeles, California. While often boundary-expanding, the ubiquitous beats of the Neptunes (Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo) are supremely radio-friendly. However, when Williams and Hugo are two-thirds of N.E.R.D. (alongside Shay), the genie is out of the bottle, and previously unimagined, genre-busting concoctions are unfurled. The second N.E.R.D. album is the product of gloriously schizophrenic genius, with acutely honed pop sensibilities. Leadoff single "She Wants to Move" features the most traditional Neptunes beat surrounded by a hyperactive rhythm section and never lets up. From there, the music wanders down a million paths, from Love-styled hippie balladry to Temptations/Sly funk-rock immediacy to dizzying Fishbone funk-punk.N.E.R.D. also displays wry, observational lyricism. On "Wonderful Place," they forge a hallucinogenic landscape where "cartoons are turning into real life," weaving three or four stories into a parable about the troubled world. The more direct "Drill Sergeant" mixes in references to Orson Welles and Barnes & Noble into the chorus chant "I'm not going to war." Building upon the frenzied funk/rock/soul/punk/psychedelia of N.E.R.D.'s debut, FLY OR DIE should solidify the group as one of the most refreshing, intelligent, rising voices in pop music. Reviews Review created: 30/08/08 by: N.E.R.D., the rock-oriented trio of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo (who also make up the in-demand hip-hop production team The Neptunes) and Shay, return with a highly-anticipated second album. Unlike their previous effort, 'Fly' finds Chad & Pharrell handling the instrumentation themselves Review ID: 10000000008492696 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 28/03/08 by: as im a big pharrell williams fan, i was a bit disappointed with a few of the tracks, in search of seemed to be a bit more lively but im still happy with the cd, cant wait or the new cd to come out, which ive heard is soon, the reason i decided to buy this is because i have all of n.e.r.d's cds now and pharrell williams 'in my mind', i couldnt leave out 'fly or die', i suppose it will grow on me, like 'in search of' did...xx Review ID: 10000000006364433 Was this review helpful? Report this review Its a shame fans arent feeling this album beacuse its awesome! The opening track "dont worry about it" immediately sets the tone - upbeat and rocky. Best tracks are the hidden gem "find my way" which is a really cool joint, the gotta-dance-to-it "she wants to move", the ecleptic "the way she dances" and the piono based rock ballad "maybe" The album shows the neptunes experimental side with wacky songs like chriots of fire and the dreamy "wonderful place" The album`s bad points: featuring Good charlotte on track 3 "jump" why? No album should have good charlotte on it. I cant really think of anything else wrong with it. I always change my mind on what i prefer between fly or die, or in search of. Either way im glad the neptunes had the balls to take the bull with horns and experiment with their sound rather than produce "in search of part 2" Review ID: 10000000003209994 Was this review helpful? Report this review Bit of al let down really, not a touch on the previous 'In search of.... Still has a couple of good tracks... lets see what comes next N.E.R.D ... you know it makes sense........... Review ID: 10000000001560303 Was this review helpful? Report this review I bought this album because I really enjoyed 'She Wants to Move'. Unfortunately I found the rest of the album uninspiring, samey and boring. Not a scratch on their previous album 'In Search Of'. Review ID: 10000000001255587 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
