Flower Drum Song
Sixties musical that is not given the attention it deserves. Focuses on the lives of Chinese immigrants to the USA, and the conflict of attitute between Chinese born elders and next generation Chinese americans. Yes most of the Chinese characters are played by Japanese actors and actors from other parts of Asia (a fact accepted at the time, but national differences are blatantly obvious now), and it does not contain any real West Side Story showstoppers, but still it is an enjoyable, colourful musical. Nice to see a forgotten film with fresh eyes.
