Album Notes
Flipmode Squad: Busta Rhymes, Rampage, Lord Have Mercy, Spliff Star, Rah Digga, Baby Sham (rap vocals).Producers: Busta Rhymes, DJ Scratch, Swizz, Tony Touch, Rockwilder.Engineers: Vinny Nicoletti, Robert Burnette, Andre Debourg.Recorded at Soundtrack Studios, New York, New York.No rapper can match the energy, talent and unique character of Busta Rhymes. But if anyone comes close, it would have to be the artists he himself spawned. THE IMPERIAL is the debut release from the Flipmode Squad, Busta times six. With tracks sure to burn up the dance floor, THE IMPERIAL features classic production not heard since Busta's "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See." Rah Digga (the crew's only female member), Spliff Star, Baby Sham and of course Busta Rhymes himself rip the mic for "Cha Cha Cha," the album's undeniable club-banger. Joining in on other tracks are Rampage and Lord Have Mercy, two already-established MCs. Also check "Run For Cover" and "Everybody On The Line Outside" for hip-hop satisfaction.

Editorial Reviews
3.5 Mics (out of 5) - ...Busta has assembled his rhyme partners...and together they're out for world domination....Thankfully, at any point during the LP you can hear different configurations of the collective MCs...
The Source (10/01/1998)

3 Stars (out of 5) - ...Rhymes' handpicked team...handles its album-length bow admirably....each MC brings a different dimension to the group mix....this is a record of imperial jams.
Rolling Stone (10/15/1998)

...Flipmode Squad aren't half as weird as Busta, but THE IMPERIAL brings big-ass bump for the boulevard...
Spin (12/01/1998)

...None of them equal the inventiveness of their fearlessly funny leader (who rhymes enough here for a solo album), Still, their pass-the-mic lunacy proves infectious... - Rating: B
