At half-mast without a strong letter
If it wasn't for its companion film "Letters from Iwo Jima" this film would very quickly be consigned to the scrap heap for recycling.
It seems to promise so much yet fails to deliver. Maybe if you watch this before watching "Letters..." you may appreciate it more, however I did it the other way around. Some good aspects are where you see the films linking over different scenes. I believe this could have been exploited more as these aspects do generate a greater interest.
Both films are available in a set and this is what I would recommend you obtaining; as even whilst "Letters..." is the better, "Flags..." does add value to it.
