5 Children & It / Five Children And It
"It" is a Psammead (voices by Eddie Izzard), and ancient, ugly and irritable sand fairy the children find one day in a gravel pit. It grants them a wish a day, lasting until sunset. But they soon learn it is very hard to think of really good wishes, and each one gets them into more and more trouble. Magic, the children find, can be as awkward as it is enticing. There's fun for all the family, featuring an all-star British cast including Kenneth Branagh and Zoe Wanamaker.
As a child I watched the TV-Series eagerly each week, and although watching this movie did transport me back to that time a little, it also however left me feeling a little dissapointed, whether that was due to my expectations having been raised over the years from the initial awe of first viewing at childhood, or because the graphics left something to be desired i'm not sure.
The Psammead is produced by the Jim Henson company, who brought you Kermit the Frog and The Muppets Show.
This is a good wholesome family movie that children will love and inspire a trip to the seaside. It's a simple fantasy story with good morals, and the stereotypical "happy ending"
"This magical movie is the perfect treat for all the family" - Paul Ross
The movie has the same feel as "The Railway Children", It is set in the same period and carries this off very well.
All together i would say this is a good movie for children that will captivate them =from start to finish.
