Album Notes
The Fireballs: George Tomsco, Eric Budd, Stan Lark, Chuck Tharp, Doug Roberts, Jimmy Gilmer, Trev Faull.Recorded in 1959-1964. Includes liner notes by Trev Faull. All tracks have been digitally remastered.Recorded between 1959 and 1964 in the same Clovis, New Mexico studio where Buddy Holly made his biggest hits, THE BEST OF THE ORIGINAL NORMAN PETTY MASTERS collects the Fireballs early instrumental sides, made before singer Jimmy Gilmer came on board. A few of the tracks--"Torquay," "Bulldog" "Quite a Party"--were minor chart hits, and deservedly so; the Fireballs (at this stage) were a highly entertaining Tex-Mex version of the Ventures, and their music still packs a wallop, thanks in part to Norman Petty's clean, ahead-of-its time, production.
