Album Notes FIREBALL is a digitally remastered edition featuring bonus tracks, outtakes, and remixes.Deep Purple: Ian Gillan (vocals); Ritchie Blackmore (guitar); Jon Lord (keyboards); Roger Glover (bass); Ian Paice (drums).Engineers: Martin Birch, Lou Austin, Alan O'Duffy.Rceorded at Welcombe Maor Studios, Devonshire, England in 1971. Includes liner notes by Simon Robinson.By the time of this 1971 release, Deep Purple was in the midst of making the transition from the hard-edged pop of the band's first line-up to a band that was battling Led Zeppelin for the hard rock crown. Having already gotten off to a great start with DEEP PURPLE IN ROCK, this Purple lineup of Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Roger Glover, and Ian Paice fit together like interlocking pieces. Blessed with such unerring chemistry, Purple raised the bar for hard rock with such nuggets as the hard-driving title track and the grinding "Fools." Elsewhere, they show surprising range with the country-flavored "Anyone's Daughter" (featuring some impressive finger picking by Blackmore) and the Jimi Hendrix-influenced "No One Came" (which includes a dollop of psychedelic backwards guitar). Also included is the Purple epic "The Mule," a sweeping tour de force dominated by Blackmore's Middle Eastern-tinged soloing and Lord's Pink Floyd-ian keyboard runs. The song became a highlight of Deep Purple's live shows. | |||||||||||||
Reviews Review created: 24/07/08 by: I hadn't heard this album for 30 years!!!!! Within the first 5 seconds of the opening track 'Fireball' blasting out of my speakers I was siging along like a maniac... This album seriously rocks... Every track is a classic and hasn't aged in the slightest.. The remastering is wonderful - with all the instruments bouncing out of the speakers.. There's 8 bonus tracks included along with a very informative 28 page booklet.. This along with several other of the Deep Purple re-masters are available on e.bay at really cheap prices, and I would certainly recommend these to anyone who simply likes great rock music played as good as it can be played...++++++ Review ID: 10000000008062976 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 01/04/07 by: Bought it because of the selection of tracks on it--good solid stuff for somebody that appreciates Deep Purple but is not an afficionado. The track 'Somebody's Daughter' is a very pleasant surprise. I'd not heard it before and shows that Deep Purple could move outside of the box most of us put them into when the mood took them. Excellent addition to my ever burgeoning collection. Review ID: 10000000003261661 Was this review helpful? Report this review Many years ago I had a cassette tape of Fireball. No other cd or compilation has "Anyone´s Daughter" my favorite track. I am so pleased with this CD, it takes me right back, and had bonus tracks too.
