"All his life Ray Kinsella was searching for his dreams, then one day his dreams came searching for him." That was the tag line in the preview I saw for Field of Dreams in the spring of 1989.

I remember thinking 'that looks interesting'. I had no idea that what seemed like an 'interesting' little film would end up being one of my all-time favorites.

Field of Dreams is an amazing illogical, fantastic journey that never seems to be going where you think it is. Rather than get distracted in trying to figure out what is going to happen (like I often do upon first viewing), Field of Dreams is one film where I was just content to sit back in wonder waiting to find out where Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) and I were being led to.

The film wastes no time with set up and supposition. "If you build it he will come" a strange voice whispers in the opening minutes of the film and Ray Kinsella, the Iowa farmer who is the only one who can hear the voice is just as perplexed as you are as a viewer. Without giving too much away, because of this voice Ray is led on a pilgrimage across America, that is seemingly all about baseball; but turns out to be really about something far more poignant and touching.

A fine cast does an excellent job tip-toeing around the fragile confines of the story, somehow avoiding the corny or ridiculous. To a great degree what keeps Field of Dreams from becoming nothing more than an absurd excercise is that Kevin Costner makes his character so down-to-earth that he really seems like an ordinary person who has been placed in an extraordinary situation that is beyond his control or understanding.

I loved Field of Dreams the first time I saw it and it has never lost it's luster in the countless times I've seen it since. I highly recommend it.

Field of dreams , is an excellent story of a man who wishes he had spent more time with his father . When he meets him again at the end , well I was crying . it is a story that from start to finish you do not know how it will end , and what a great ending it was .Joan

Once you have seen this Film you have to own it. Costners Character heres voices telling him 'If you build it he will come' - Build what,a baseball pitch, who will come, that is the plot? Costners search pulls in strong characters played by Ray Liotta, Burt Lancaster and James Earl Jones. The story is engaging and before you know it a clever ending provides a heart warming finale. Baseball, no Brits favourite sport is just a means to an ends so don't let that put you off this one.

The story is set around Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner), who lives on a farm in a remote part of Iowa with his wife Annie (Amy Madigan) and daughter Karin. The film starts with Ray's life story, taking us from his father's early life to his present situation, where he tells us that he has never done a crazy thing in his life.

At that point he hears a voice from his cornfield, telling him "If you build it, he will come". Ray, naturally enough, ponders upon his own sanity. However the voice is reinforced through a dream and vision, and he sets about destroying his corn crops and building a Baseball field instead. This turns out to be a wonderful, fantasy world, where dead Baseball players return to fulfill the dreams they never realised.

feild of dreams is a fab a film that is well worth a watch and a must for any dvd collectors!!!!!!!!

I found it difficult to put in to words the way I thought about this film. Then I came across this quote from the New York Times. It just about sums it up for me

"A work so smartly written, so beautifully filmed, so perfectly acted, that it does the almost impossible trick of turning sentimentality into true emotion...."

What more can I say. A great piece of work.

always liked this film and now its available on dvd, been changing my collection from vhs to dvd and had to get this again, unusual film with a different storyline to usual, be cool to see people that no-one else can see, who knows what will end up in your back garden.

This was purchased as a present for my father as he wished to see the film again, as I had never watched it I decided to borrow it and found it to be an easy film to watch,very heartwarming.

i love this film, i havent actually bought it for myself i bought it for my mum for Mothers Day as we always used to watch this film together. Its really light watching and a really good family film.

We are baseball fans so when we were in the area we travelled to the site where the movie was made. Played ball on the diamond and watched the film which was excellent. It relates to a game fixing scandal involving the Chicago Whitesox. We had to get the DVD.

This film will never date, thoroughly enjoyable to watch, time after time.
They say Dreams never come true!! Well, this film proves they do. :o)

Had been looking for a copy of this film for quite some time and found it on EBAY!!! A great film, a classic, Kevin Costner stars as a corn farmer, he hears a voice to build a baseball ground on his farm. "BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME". He builds it and you will have to watch it to see what else happens!!!

I first saw this at the Cinema and it gets better every time I see it again. A excellent feel good movie. James Earl-Jones & Kevin Costner at there best. A must see for everyone
