Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) is a tricky but harmless fast-talker. But he knows how to have fun, which is exactly what he sets out to do when he feigns illness and talks his parents into letting him stay home from school. The perpetually lucky Ferris enlists his hypochondriac best friend, Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck), into springing his girlfriend, Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara), from class, and the three embark on a raucous downtown Chicago adventure. From Wrigley Field to the Art Institute of Chicago to a Polish pride parade, Ferris and his friends make the most of their day off. But Ferris, Sloane, and Cameron might not get away with playing hooky. Ferris's sister, Jeanie (Jennifer Grey), is determined to prove that Ferris is faking sick and make him pay for it, and the bumbling school dean, Ed Rooney (Jeffrey Jones), is sure that Ferris is pulling a fast one. Another classic from writer-director John Hughes (SIXTEEN CANDLES, THE BREAKFAST CLUB), this film features a star turn from Broderick as the charismatic Ferris. Watch for Charlie Sheen as the juvenile delinquent in the police station and comedian Louie Anderson in a brief appearance as a flower deliveryman. Conniving Shermer, Ill. high school student Bueller spends his ninth school absence in the company of his kvetchy best friend Cameron and girlfriend Sloane, tearing through downtown Chicago on a mad quest for fun. The ruse seems perfect, right down to Cameron's dad's borrowed Ferrari, but Ferris' nemesis, high school principal Ed Rooney, is determined to bring the truants to justice.

So, here I am, at 48, ordering a film for my kids that I enjoyed when I was younger that I am sure they will enjoy now.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off is that kind of film. Great acting, great script. Everything works perfectly here. Oh, and the soundtrack is pretty good, too.

Classic does get banded about far too often but in a decade where the teen film became crude and rude, Ferris stood out as an intelligent and witty movie that addressed teenagers across the world.

How could I possibly be expected to go to school on a day like this." Probably means more to people who were teenagers around that time and it was conceivable possible to get away with skipping school on occassion (not that I did...although I did).
Well in my opinion this film is my greatest ever comedy. This was the film that made me want to be an American student, Matthew Broderick is the coolest kid in school, everyone loves him, His vice prinicpal hates him!!
Slick, fast pasted comedy from the John Hughes stable. That will have you coming back for many more views. The DVD only bonus is the commentry from John Hughes perfect for the avid fan, where you get an insight, of what really went on, on the set, during filming

I bought this film for my kids as I remembered it as a film I used to love watching when I was 12+ . Classic Matthew Broderick action with a very small part for Charlie Sheen at the end ! Highly recommended. there is nothing I dont like about this film.

A young Matthew Broderick stars in this film. It is a comedy of errors when he, his girl and best friend skip the day off school. Something so many of us wished we had done in our younger days, but judging by the events that unfold probably a good thing we didnt!
Also look out for his sister... more famous for her dirty dancing....

still cool for me, but not crazy anought for todays pplfor me this is a classic must-have movie for remembering decades gone. i think younger people wont get the connection to this. it is so very difenent to teenagermovies of the last years. i think it is simply far better. good taste in every perspective. i wanted to give "good", but changed my mind to "excellent".

My husband and I have always loved this film and so to buy it on dvd rather than our old video was great!

Even though a "classic" (well almost) I found it rather tedious. I seemed to be watching the clock waiting for the ending. I didn't even find it interesting as a period piece. It is one of those titles that you feel you should have but I think I have in the past but it is so forgettable that that is just what happened. For me it rates 4/10.

) This film is the meaning of what could go wrong has. It starts of as a simple sick day but turns out to be one of the most unluckiest days of ferris's life. Everytime i watch or think about this film it makes me laugh so much. It always makes me think that at least my day ain't that bad. It is a classic comedy by all accounts and a must see!

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is possibly one of the greatest films of our generation (1984-1989's). The film introduces Ferris (Matthew Broderick) attempting to perduade his parents that he is unable to go to school. Ferris goes to great length to formulate a plan to ensure he doesnt get caught but an on the ball headteacher 'Mr Rooney' who notices that Ferris has missed 9 days of school. Rooney attempts to take on Ferris and the sheer comic genius of this film comes out!
This film is full of witty one liners and longer comic pieces that will leave you quoting from this film for years to come - i saw it when it originally came out and i watch it every month!
Kids, dont watch this with your parents if you want any tips!

Maybe I am stuck in the past, but I never tire of watching this movie in reruns... and I just turned 50! It must be the secret dream of every adult (as well as student) to just "check out" for the day! And there's no better person to pal around with than Ferris. This guy could probably turn a trip for a root canal into a picnic. Perfect casting all around - from the oh-so-typical Bueller family to Grace, the school secretary (who has a line on all the school cliques - the dweebs, motorheads, sportos, etc) Didn't everybody have an Ed Rooney in the head office? There is something for everybody on this joyride through Chicago. From the ballpark to the art museum to the parade and everything in between - a day could not have more fun crammed into it. Even those angst-ridden teen characters (Jeannie/Shawna and Cameron) have an upspin in their lives. All in all, a great time was had by all. Bueller....Bueller....Bueller.

What can I say? This is one of the most memorable films of my life! It had been so many years since I saw it on the telly; I was worried that it may not be so "magical" as I remembered. Yeah it full of 80's cheese; bad jokes, clothes and hairstyles, but it still delivers the same feelings as when I saw it all those years ago. My kids (age 9 & 12) loved it just as I did when I was their age (a great relief as I made them watch weird science and they hated it). This is simply a must in ANYONE'S DVD collection, young or old it doesn't matter, my Mum & Dad have borrowed it to watch again!

I bought this for my 15 year old son as a stocking filler.
Hoping he doesn't take any tips from Ferris, but remembering this as a oh-so-funny movie with memorable encounters and relationships during his school-avoidance day, particularly with his teacher and sister.

Others that he did in 80's and 90's included Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink.
All three of these films have kids rebelling against the system, using school for this and unfortunate teachers, none of which I would have liked in my school.
The Headteacher character brilliantly played by Jeffrey Jones and his secretary, Grace, played by Edie McClurg, are cast to perfection.
Ferris' list of achievements during his day skipping school are classic and the close escapes along the way make this film one not to miss.
Definatelly a film you can watch again and again. Buy yourself a copy and settle down for a good time.
